I have never, EVER gotten a ping to lax through Lyft. I assume is because I never bothered doing the lax test on the app. Last week I did it, and still didnt get any pings (although I worked a couple of days then). Yesterday I went to the Lyft Hub and they gave me a lax placard. Is there anything else I need to do to get pings?

Yes, you need the placard. On both U and L. You need it to pick up and to drop off there. Some people get them anyways, but that's a glitch on the U/L end (semi common on Lyft, very rare on Uber) and it gets really expensive if LAX cops bust you for not having it.

But surely, you've read this over and over in this forum?

I have been using the Uber placard for more than one year, and I dont have problems getting lax pings (both dropoff and pickup). Now I have never EVER gotten a single Lyft lax ping even though I set my df to lax. Uber always gives me one so I take it. I assume its because, on their end I dont appear that I have passed the lax test and/or have the Lyft placard. Now I have it, so I was wondering if that would be enough or if I still need to verify with them if I'm available to get lax pings through them. Tomorrow I will see, but that is if I dont get an Uber one first (probably).
