BUSTED! STATE PATROL ARRESTS 424 OVER ST. PATRICK'S WEEKEND
The patrol says that from Friday evening through early Monday, 424 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence. That's despite plenty of urging to use smarter options for getting home.

The Minnesota State Patrol says it made hundreds of arrests for drunken driving over the St. Patrick's Day weekend.

The patrol says that from Friday evening through early Monday, 424 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence. That's despite plenty of urging to use smarter options for getting home, including free bus rides, Metro Transit and Uber.

Last year, there were 175 DWI arrests and in 2016, there were 189. The last time the holiday was on a Saturday was 2012, and there were 424 arrests.

In all seriousness, I have to believe that Uber/Lift drivers are helping to reduce the number of people driving impaired. It's too bad the 370 people arrested (and the 1000's of other that drove under the influence and managed to get home without getting stopped) didn't take advantage of some other option to get home safe. I do think that without ride share, the number of arrests would have been much higher this weekend. I saw more patrol cars on Saturday than I ever saw on a late night driving shift. Apparently they were as busy as I was.

Police manpower the only thing limiting the number of drunk driving arrests on a weekend St. Patty's Day. If they had more police out, they would have had more arrests.
Could not agree more. Too many folks out on Saturday driving themselves that should have used other options...
