I hope rideshare HQ has learned a valuable lesson over the last few weeks. They should have never spent millions of dollars on all those experimental transportation services such as Uber helicopter (seriously wtf?) and rent-a-derp-scooter/bike and self driving cars which would ultimately take money away from drivers. They took us for granted and they should have recognized that their industry is vulnerable and should have saved money to compensate drivers for lost income during situations like these. We are the ones that provide the service and generate all the revenue for rideshare HQ yet they invest money into things that decrease earnings for drivers. The great independent contractor scam house of cards is falling apart.

Is Encore compensating employees or laying off? They haven't hit target revenue yet and this will surely have a long term impact on them. Only the hardcore gambling addicts will return right away when it reopens.

I heard they are compensating them... We shall see.
Well that's good to hear. Many left long standing jobs to go work there due to the rosey picture Encore painted and the higher than average salaries they offered out the gate. They owe it to those employees and the city of Boston to make that place a success and the "destination" casino they described when planning. So far IMO they have failed.

@TaraVon is right. The resort was shut down (along with their Vegas resort) for a month and the employees are getting their full wages. They made the right decision IMO.

I agree with you too. The casino industry is going to be hit hard by this. I remember in 2008 Foxwoods was hurting from the recession big time. Everyone was afraid to spend money on frivolous things.

I think the thought of touching chips and slot machines will be a hard mental obstacle for many to overcome. People are paranoid by this and IMO will create some long term germaphobes. Knowing you went over there I'm glad to hear their taking care of you during the shutdown.

In past downturns that hurt the gambling industry, the problem was lack of money to spend. This time, if I had the money, the last things I'd want to touch are gambling chips and the buttons on slot machines (no more handles these days).

When Reagan was shot in 1981, as he was being rolled into surgery, he told the doctors, "I hope you're all Republicans." One replied, "Today sir, we are all Republicans."

Today, we are all germaphobes. Lifelong converts.
