I thought it might hit the 3's since Hoboken seemed very busy and it was in the 2.5 range for a bit.. There was also some sort of fire over by Texas Arizona - lots of smoke. My ride paid nicely and my pax were generous with the tip

Ya it did hit close to 3x... but like he said at around 3. When I was already in my comfy bed. I figure I rather go to bed early, get some rest, wake up early and get 1.8 CHURCH surges rather than 2.5 DRUNK surges. Sure it worked out for you. But I guarantee some driver last night almost got rapped near Texas Arizona. GUARANTEE! Not worthed.

There are rumors that Uber caps surge.
At the airport there is definitely a 2.5 surge cap, however I have recently seen a 3.4 at the airport. But that was also during that crazy surge issue last week.
That 3.4 didn't exist because the app was broken. During that issue if you saw any surge at EWR then actual surge was 0. Only when EWR was white, it was actually surging.
Like I said, I have SEEN (actually received a request) for 3.4.
