Many questions about tipping. It could prove interesting if they improve their relationship with drivers by adding the tip into the app.(I won't hold my breath though)
Their rationalization of why they don't have a tip in the app is completely absurd, minority drivers wouldn't get the tips that non-minority drivers would(actually the non-minority is probably the minority when it comes to Uber drivers) and it wouldn't be fair. Instead they don't help anyone get an extra buck or so.
People tip either because of the service or it is their nature. It has nothing to do with the race or country of the person they are tipping.
Wonder if Uber management tips when they go to a restaurant? If they do it would be hypocrisy on their part.

According to that rationalization then anything rating the driver good or bad (or the stupid badges) should be deemed racist as well.

What about the Uber boost maps that leave out traditionally black neighborhoods? There are plenty of weekday surges around Franklin Park, but I have never seen a Boost map for the area. I mean, if Uber is going to use the question of race as a reason for not promoting tips, they might as well walk the walk that they preach and encourage drivers to cover black areas just as much as they encourage us to be in the Back Bay, Brookline or in Southie.
