Interesting that 2 years ago I met a Canadian engineer while sailing on Lake Ontario and he is one of the top engineers at GM in Oshawa. It was almost impossible to engage in any conversation about his Autonomous research at the labs in Oshawa.

Turns out some of this technology is going to rolling out on new Ford models in a few years. He did mention QNX was starting to apply itself to this new technology. This software from RIM that is apparently the reason for the big pop in RIM stock last week. Not sure if GM is going to partner with RIM.

I've bought the stock, should have paid closer attention to his comments. Oh well I own it now.

Article says Google is ahead in technology. They are ranked sixth only because they are missing the strategy to get it mass produced to the public.

He was lying to you/blowing speculative second hand smoke up your arse. GM does no vehicle or technology related engineering in Oshawa. It's an assembly plant. The only engineers who work there are plant process engineers, who take care of production line equipment/operation.

To reiterate, I wish I had bought RIM sooner. As well the Federal Liberals are also rolling out an AI research centre in Toronto which has actually been informally around for several years.

The number of academics in and around U of T and the Perimeter Institute working on AI is severely under reported. One of the first Quantum Physicists to earn a Ph D was from U of T Physics Department more than 20 years ago. Some of the biggest AI breakthroughs could emanate from Ontario, not Uber.
