Delivering Rider's Box/Parcel?

800 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Gill002
Yesterday when I arrived at the pick up location the rider came out with sealed Box and he will not go and wants me to deliver this box to the drop off location. Since I don not know what is in the box so I refused. Price was surging at 1.4 that time. So I cancelled the trip and informed Uber and demanded a cancellation fees for my time. Uber guy replied it "you get cancellation fee if rider cancel after5 min or if you cancel after 5 min of arrival." But this scenario was different.
Btw my question is to you guys what would you have done? Would you just accept this trip and deliver the box? And is it allowed? The uber guy did not answer that part.

If I don't know what I'm delivering I don't take it into my possession. No way.

Was the box ticking ?

Smell like explosives ?

How big was it ?

I probably would have delivered it.

You did the right thing. You should have asked the client to cancel or waited there for 5 min

No way I would ever accept a sealed box with unknown contents. You did the right thing.

I've transported three packages during my entire Uber "career" since November 2014.

First was a small envelope with a key.

Second was a small can of specialty paint I picked up from a store owner downtown.

The last one was a small black box with a label maker from one elderly gentleman to another.

First was a short trip $5.

Last two were good long trips worth of $15-20 each.

My only time was delivering a baby blanket with his mom's smell on it because he couldn't go to sleep otherwise no way! Too much of a risk never deliver without seeing the content especially with insurance liability issues!

You did the right thing, I would have essentially done the same thing you did.

What's your angle on this? Is there any logical reason, or you are just not doing this on some principal?

I don't trust these people with their packages. They can easily hide some contraband in it and refuse it's theirs. There have been stories that the drug dealers have using Uber to deliver their drugs. They hand the drivers a package and asks them to deliver. They can hide them secretly in the box/etc while showing you something legitimate in the box.

Proving this to the cops that it isn't yours is time consuming. In the meantime your guilty until proven innocent, these days.

And this is a ridesharing gig not parcel or moving gig. :)

Ok, I hear you.

All legitimate reasons, makes sense.

I totally agree. As I mentioned earlier - all three times that I've transported a package, it was open and the contents was clearly seen.

Of course, the envelope with the key could be dipped in LSD :D, the paint in the can I picked up from the store owner and delivered to an old lady could be diluted with cocaine and the label maker I delivered from a 70 year old man to a 70 year old man could be a concealed weapon.

But, truth to be told, I'm just not seeing a drug dealer giving someone their stash to deliver. Too much risk. I mean delivering drugs themselves is one thing, but this way? Very unlikely. Otherwise we would have heard about a flurry of deliveries happening in Uber here. Especially those working evening and night hours (like myself). And having 3 deliveries made in over 1600 trips over 1.5 years pretty much speaks about the delivery demand for itself.

That being said, of course, it's your discretion. And I advice to take your time to decide if you are doing it or not.

Had one pax throw her sh*t into the backseat and yelled, DRIVE!
I literally told her to go *uck herself, sideways, I'm not a delivery contractor.
She was like, Oh but every other uber driver does this and I told her, I'm not of them....
Its your car, its your responsibility for any item thats in it

I once delivered a box full of baked goods, from Bathurst eglinton to billy bishop airport for the aroma espresso cafe there.

But I would never accept something I have no clue what's inside. You could possibly be transporting drugs or anything, and you would have no idea what it is

Even a regular police stop and he would ask you what's inside
