DC emergency services is considering uber for 911 calls deemed non emergent.

The liability involved with taking someone to a hospital after they've request emergency medical assistance. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole.

So the Uber driver is supposed to make the determination if it's an emergency or not? What if pax dies in transit? Seems to me Emergency Services are trying to pass on the cost to Uber drivers without the insurance or proper pay. Uber Pool to the Emergency Room? EFF THAT! There's a reason why Emergency Services exist and why they cost a lot. Wouldn't touch that with a 20 foot pole.

Well, that's a little overstating it UberSaur, but if a nurse at the 911 call center determines its a non emergent problem not needing an ambulance response, then yes, it seems they would just order an uber....unless there's a law or ordinance passed at specifically indemnifes the driver from liability for any health complications that may arise I wouldn't *ever* accept this ride.

How would you know where passenger is going before you start the trip? No way of knowing. If passenger is already in car and asks to go to emergency room, what a driver to do?
There's a difference between the rider request to go to the ER and it being used a an alternative to ambulances. As a service of the local 911 system. I'll gladly take people wherever they need to go. But assuming the liability of an emergency service provider is a whole different kettle of beans.

Sick, but not deathly ill baby, no car seat? Deny them?
Sick elderly who cant walk themselves and you have to assist? Deny them?
Pregnant, water breaks? Cleaning fee? Contractions speed up, do you speed up?

I have taken passengers to Holy Cross and Shady Grove for "emergency" services but none were life threatening. Poison ivy rash. High fever. If I see flesh wound or blood I would cancel.
