Dash Cams

I don't have a dash cam, but after having an asshole pax who threatened me this weekend, it may be a good idea. On top of that, he complained to Uber about me. I have over 1,000 rides with a 4.88 rating and I'm sure Uber will believe every word this asshole says. With that a couple questions:

1. What dash cam do you recommend?
2. In Illinois, do I need 2 party consent?

Thanks

1) PM me, I have one NIB you can have cheap...Will send pics/links etc.
2) No, as long as you don't use it for any commercial purpose or post the content publically. Most peeps recommend posting a sign anyway...as a deterrent and a CYA.

DA to defendant, "So let me understand this Mr. Asshat, You admit seeing the recording notice, and yet you still did the stupid/illegal thing that got you charged with felony assault, is that correct? Ok, nothing further your Honor".
A vehicle for hire where the public enters is a public space not covered as a private space There is no expectation of privacy in a Taxi, ro example, HOWEER, in a limo that has a privacy screen, different matter - a dash cam can be on and used without consent as long as the pirvacy screen is UP), there is no consent required at all. You may have as many cams as you like installed, in fact.

Partially untrue - you may at any point publish the dash video online- even live, and you may in fact profit from it if you choose - there is NO Illinois law preventing that.

That said, IF you choose to publish online live or later, and you did NOT have the rider/s sign a waiver, you WILL be liable for paying appearance fees to those riders at some later date TBD if they choose to make a claim!

You cant just put up a sign that reads "This vehicle is for public transportation and as such contains no expectation of privacy, therefore no consent is required and at least one camera with audio is on and transmitting live at all times. You waive all rights to monetary claims of you or your likeness being broadcast now or in the future."

The first sentence covers you, legally. In Illinois. The second, In the U.S. any state, you dont have a leg to stand on with out a signed or on-camera waiver statement made!

Every time the question comes up needs a new thread,, if that's a problem then we should have topics creation on the forum board.

FMT (frequently mentioned topics) re: dash cams; as state laws constantly change, the recurring threads are logical and needed.
You have a smart phone mounted on the dash, correct? Just fire up the cam app. You don't have to worry if the passenger hides their face because what you really want is the audio. Sheesh. Common sense!
My dash cam came in handy last Saturday. A male and 2 females entered my car and I started the ride. After 50 yards I noticed the girls in the back seat were holding plastic cups with alcohol. I told them that's illegal and kicked them out. The male got a little angry but ALL was recorded, just in case he claims something different. I reported to Uber. Get a FALCON DUAL DASH CAM. it mounts on your rear view mirror

Does it replace your mirror? My Optima has auto dimming rear view mirror and also has the Garage Door buttons on the mirror. I can't replace that mirror and the buttons on the bottom make it larger than a simple mirror.
It attaches over the existing rear view mirror. GUYS Listen. A lot of riders are causing different issues once they get in your car. Your only defense is a dash cam.
