Not shocked. That's why the city of Dallas came out so quickly he had not requested a city of Dallas permit & no background checks were run from City.
After a high profile rape case involving a driver, I'm shocked that Uber or Lyft would continue allowing drivers to take rides in Dallas without a driver permit and vehicle permit on file.

Obviously, but common sense would suggest that Uber would want its drivers to be in compliance with the applicable legal requirements.

I understand that common sense may not enter into it at all, though.
This has actually been a very popular conversation topic on my rides the last few days. Riders want to know how stringent the background checks are. I am always tempted to say, "Obviously not very good, they hired me for example". However, many people have no sense of humor so I refrain.

My last pax brought this up as well (as her reason for not using Lyft)

I don't understand why either allows ANYONE to operate in Dallas without the drivers registration with the city being uploaded. I live and work in Fort Worth. I get rides to Dallas....I could turn my app off and drive outside the city OR leave it on and catch a ride around and possibly get back to town.

I feel like Uber and Lyft should allow pings inside of Dallas to only people with the registration completed.
Not taking a side of a driver who misbehaved but,I had passengers who were so sexually provocative and insisted in such activities numerous times while the trip was in progress. Thanks to my instinct that I keep my personal phone handy and voice recorderon the go. If anything suspicious and feel they are out of line, i let them know politely of being recorded .

My point is sometime, its the passenger who does all wrong and blameit on a driver. I was provoked by those intoxicated chicks multiple times tofuel into their intimacy . By that i mean flashing their assets while I was driving and dint show any interest.

In a nutshell, no driver should be held responsible for anything until convicted of it

Just act like like your blind!! I know I used to get the same thing from men when I drove. It's irritating at times.

Exactly what I did while informing that i would kick them out of my car if they repeat it. But i let it slide since the surge was 4.0 and the ride was from Mckinney to Plano

It was few months ago before they slashed the fares . Probably in April on a Friday
I end up having to drive some unfortunate soul to the courthouse in McKinney every so often. My experience scoring a fare out of there has been very negative.
I smell the Cab Lobby behind all of this to provoke municipal leaders and regulators to respond and expel Uber.
It's obviously that you're not very familiar with the details of this particular case. Perhaps you should spend some time familiarizing yourself with the details before spinning conspiracy theories about the mythical "Cab Lobby".

I'm not saying that I don't believe this nor the incident in South Carolina - if they are real then my heartfelt hope that the victims can both physically and emotionally recover and take whatever appropriate measures against the perpetrators. But on the other hand -

I smell the Cab Lobby behind all of this to provoke municipal leaders and regulators to respond and expel Uber. Remember that "Perception is their reality". Once someone crafts a perception about someone or something it's gonna take a lot of energy, effort, and resource to correct the public relations hit whether these allegations are true or false.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong (DMiller)
No mythical cab conspiracy. I am not a cab driver either. Facts are in Dallas alledged rape case Uber never ran background checks on the suspect. City of Dallas never issued a city permit for him or did another background check in which they do for all Uber or Lyft drivers. Facts are driver used a fake limo permit. Uber put him on Uber X 4 months later without a background check. Fact Uber screwed up! City would have never issued him a permit because he had a federal weapons charge in which he was released from prison in 2012.

She's going to win a lot of money and she deserves to. Uber put him on the street without running a background check that would have kept him from using the Uber app. Uber allowed him to drive within the City of Dallas without the driver providing Uber proof of his passing the Dallas bg check which was put in place exactly because of concerns that Uber's checks weren't stringent enough, which they clearly weren't.

7 figure payout forthcoming and a big-time screw up for Uber. They claim they (and we) don't need to be regulated but when they can't regulate themselves to not let someone fairly fresh out of federal prison to drive, they have a losing argument and frankly make themselves look a little ridiculous.

I wonder how someone with no record who get's deactivated because of ratings feels about this guy being approved by Uber?

Uber driver charged with sex assault in Dallas served time in federal prison, records indicate
"Chammout, who had been convicted in 1995 of assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, was charged during the weapons investigation with being a felon in possession of firearms and conspiracy to possess stolen government property."
