I've only been an UBER partner for a short time. I live up near the Woodlands and usually only drive on the weekends inside the loop. I know there are a lot of concerts at the pavilion in the Woodlands but I'm concerned I'll be picking up a bunch of Woodlands residents from the concerts and making a bunch of short trips to their houses or maybe even dropping off people at one of the nearby hotels. My fear is I won't make any real money I'll only be making a bunch of short trips. Does anyone have any experience working the concerts at the pavilion?

It's a crap shoot. No different then bar closing. It's different for every concert. You have to determine how much you want to gamble. I held off recently on a concert waiting for the big surge...2 hours later I resorted to scraps. I've skipped concerts thinking it would be like that 2 hour dead one, only to miss out on New Years Eve 8+x surging.

Oh...and don't worry. Your not missing any real money. That era in Uber pretty much flushed down tube back in January after they lowered the rates.

It's a law of numbers and bit of luck and gambling on skipping certain pings.

Yeah - and no one is paying 3-5x Select surges. Unless Uber is still hiding the multiplier like they have been. It's almost like they are purposely doing it to make sure people pick X and keep the newbies interested.

And, by the looks of things, the post concert biz was a bust. Just like many of the nights last week. They push it in the app and then there flooded for drivers and no one wins. Well...Uber always wins. Jackasses.

It was the typical kneejerk reaction. The previous weekend, they pushed White Linen Night since it was a surge-fest the year before (it was... best night shift Saturday I ever did), so all the drivers were in the city causing The Woodlands to hit a massive surge after the Dixie Chicks concert. This past weekend, with the big concerts going on Friday and Saturday, they put the guarantee up there so there were a ton of drivers and no waiting.

Like most everyone says, go to the opposite place of where Uber texts tell you to go. The lemmings are all running off the cliff.

Traffic is not bad if you take Grogans Mill back to 45. It's a crap shoot, it sure is but, its likely you will eventually get a trip back to Houston. Problem is, many of these riders go wait at the bars down the street if the surge is too high. Many of these will think the bars are further than what they are and therefore take a uber half a mile down the road.

Woodlands after a sold out concert is usually pretty good. I did not go this weekend since it was raining, and if you have never been out to the woodlands, there are only a few seats that are covered, the rest of the people are on the "lawn" and are going to be extremely muddy after a good rain.

If it s sunny skies, you'll see me out there. Just know that the only surge you will see is directly after the concert, there is no surge at 2am, so don't wait around. When the surge ends, take the scraps and you'll end up back in Houston.

On a side note.. blankets are evidently not allowed. A security official told my riders this on Saturday as they got out. Since they had already left me a good size tip, I told them I will take it back for them on my way home. (I took this ride while waiting at home). When I saw the security official pull up, I originally thoguht I dropped off in a bad spot (not for Ubers, so I rolled down my windows to hear)

Any riders reading this, leaving tips, gets you good service.

Real tips.....

Just dropped off a pax from hobby to memorial hospital. Asked me if I can step on it, a good tip, his grandmother was on deathbed. End of ride he asked me for a card, said he'd pass it to his family as they'll all be arriving in town.

That was his 'tip'. A hole. Instant 1 star rating.
I totally want to pull over and let these "drive fasters" out on the freeway. The Grandma on deathbed story I would of understood, but not some others like..

This guy: (probably the same one you had, he had curly hair)

Picked him up from the airport on Friday night - around 1am (possible flight delay), since he only had a backpack)) At this point I notice we are going to Hillcroft and 59. He asked me how long would it take? 10 minutes? I chuckled and told him, that is impossible, its going to be more like 35 minutes. I thought he was joking, but then he said, well, you need to hit the gas harder. I told him "okay" ("hitting the gas") I will go 10 above on the freeway, but thats it. No way I am doing 120mph down the freeway to get him down there in 15 minutes.

Anyways, I went 10mph over, because guess what is at Hillcroft and 59? A bus terminal (that Chevron). Possible flight delay, a bus terminal, this guy may have to actually get there. He did not seem like he was in the mood to talk.

Anyways, I hear him kind of mumbling in the back, but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps he really had to be there.

OH NO! , as we were nearing downtown, he exclaimed! Grandma's are driving faster than you! I turned around and said, what? He put his head down and mumbled some more. I slowed down to 60 for the rest of the way..; cruise control.

Then a few minutes later, he asked how long have I been driving for Uber? I ignored him twice. Then I responded, about two years. He asked if I liked it. I said. Most of the time. ( I figured he thought he could email Uber and take my job away) So I decided to let the cruise control go and go down to 55. At this point, this guy is a threat. He was clearly agitated but did not say a word for the rest of the trip.

This trip, as we got closer, I noticed, it was not the bus station, but Michael's, the strip club. Okay, a stripper must of texted him and said she will wait for him until x time.

Well, this guy got a 1 star and I went inside to collect my reward. $10 for bringing him. That $10 was never more worth it. Im glad I didnt pull over and kick him out. I would of missed the $10.

P.S. Even though I was driving like a Grandma, I got him there in 33 minutes (2 min faster) than what the original ETA was.
