So the other day an ignorant, arrogant, self righteous dude came here bragging about an app he created to report drivers who block bike lanes. Although this is taking it too far I agree we shouldnt block lanes, it is the law. But I also feel that most cyclists are arrogant as well.
why not start a thread that we can show the city that cyclist should be accountable as well? They should go for a license and mandatory cyclist safety education. There can be some revenue for the city alone here as well as safer place to drive. Let's face it, cycling in New York City is dangerous. It's not the an open field. They have rules that they most follow but there is no way for us to help enforce them for a safer NYC. It should be a privilege to ride a bike in NYC. I never once woke up thinking , " ahh what a great day to hit a cyclist." None of us do, it happens when people don't follow the rules.

Can we compile a bunch of videos and post it in the DOT and mayors twitter? #CyclistAccountable

The problem is that they can't be identified since they don't have license plates and they know it.
And the cops don't care unless they're riding on the sidewalk.

How are you going to identify the bicyclists ?
If they don't have to pay a fine they can just give you the finger .
If these people reporting driver's get sued a few times they might not be so arrogant.

The thing is we can't, we take the blame and eat the charges but sometimes it's not our fault. They can hide by the anonymity. We can Compile a bunch of videos of bikers riding insane and I'll just keep posting the videos on their twitter. Maybe they can wear a vision zero sticker on their helmets

The easy solution: all bikes have visible ID plates that then link to the person, or in the case of asshats on City bikes, they can track the person down based on who paid for the bike at time of incident. Now they're all going to run scared and will no longer do wheelies in the middle of the street, on the side that flows opposite in traffic.

Force bike registration on private owners. They use the roads? They need to pay for them.

He didn’t expect someone to be smart enough to post his company info on here. He took it upon himself to make an app that gained NO traction. So he comes here to show politicians that “hey look, this is the problem and I made a solution, look how drivers think. I’m screen shotting a forum.” Regular average people don’t care and know not to mess with other peoples pockets. The whole principal of the app is shet. He doesn’t know what the audience that’s on this site and the audience that would even consider using such a horrible app. The guy could have made an app to battle homelessness, but no. He wants to be the one who implements an “adequate” complaint system. Jeff should have done some research about the state of drivers and cyclist. Everyone hates cyclists, even cyclists. There is only one type of cycling here in Manhattan and it’s comercial imo.
