Has anyone has this problem? I'm not sure why the customer did not request the use of the trunk or put the grocery bags on the car floor. What is wrong with people? I don't want my rear seats dirtied or damaged. Wish the PAX would treat someone's else car as their own!

I hate it when some sukkers drag their hand carry suitcase on the road and push it straight on to the seats. Last day one clown did that and left dirt on the seats. I promptly took pics and alerted Uber. They paid me 40$ as cleaning fee. I hope that gig would teach that sukker a lesson.

First of all you're assuming the customer even owns a vehicle and therefore would know how it should be treated.
Secondly, why do you assume the customer automatically knows where you want their bags/luggage?
Even if the customer came into your car to quick for you to get out of the car to help them put their things in the trunk all you have to say is:

"Sorry but if you want to keep your bags with you instead of putting them in the trunk then they need to stay on the floor so in case of an accident they don't go flying around possibly causing further injury".

When I see a pax with a bag I get out and help load it in the trunk. This is both courteous and prevents them from putting them on my seats .

Try doing that in the middle of the road on king street.
Perfect the art of the 'just onto the side street' pull move.
that's one way, the other; which I do regularly, is the rolling stop with hazards on, get out with a wave and smile to the cars behind and then load the pax up... i do not mind being honked at...

Once I had people honking at me for stopping right after an intersection( someone actually stopped beside me blocking the other lane to yell at me)... normally I wouldn't do that, but the pax was disabled individual with a walker, and the door to where he was going was right on the corner... so I wasn't going to make him walk extra 50m or so. Let em honk, certain circumstances warrant a temporary traffic blockage. Everyone is so impatient these days.
