I live close to a major city, and Uber launched about a year ago in my area. I started driving for Uber a week ago and am pleased so far. However, I've noticed during my last run, no matter where I drive and wait for rides (10-15 miles away), I happen to be in an area with other Uber drivers in my immediate area (think down the block). I'm all for a stable and robust Uber community, but has anyone else experienced this? What are some ways you are dealing with it? I fear it may takeaway from potential rides for any given driver.

Hahahahahahaha

Welcome to ride sharing.
Too many drivers. And more signing up DAILY.

Let's talk again when your rating falls below 5 stars.

Some drivers theorize that new drivers are given priority pings to bait you to continue driving rideshare. Once the honeymoon period is over, so are the priority pings, and you end up like the other drivers around you, waiting for a ping. Again, this is just a theory that was posted by drivers.

Seroiusly though, unless I'm out in the sticks I just stay where I am. IMO chopping and changing places on the map is like switching lines in a supermarket queue.

I was sitting in a parking lot waiting, and another driver pulled in and parked almost right next to me. Like dude. Think. I waited a few minutes to see if he'd catch a hint, but he didn't so I moved.
When an ahole does that, I send them a trip request 6 minutes away just bc. You saw me here, move the f away bc that is what I do.

I stand my ground, and have a staring contest. Haven't lost, yet, to that black 3-series, dark silver C-class, black A4, black GS350(?). But I know my days are numbered. I don't mess with the SUV drivers, especially the chicks. They're kinda cute.

It depends to on where you are. You may be in a busy area where you will pick up a ride in no time no matter how many drivers are nearby. You will also learn little tricks to separate yourself from the rest of the pack as you continue.

The problem with moving is that it only encourages them to do it. If you stay and stand your ground they will eventually learn that if they stay in that area you'll always be there too and they will have to split the pings.

"You're not IN the traffic jam. You ARE the traffic jam."
Oohhh we have some deep thoughts here. Love it.

To be honest, I got tempted to send them out of the parking lot many times, but never actually did. They should have the courtesy of keeping a decent distance especially when you sat there for 30

Problem is ... that there is an Uber in every parking lot.
Pretty soon ya just gotta figure that "well, there's only ONE in this one."

Friend told me that he has gotten two spam emails in the last ten days asking if he wanted to sign up for Uber.

Did your market start with 10 years back and newer or 15 back and newer? If 10 you are in for a treat soon!
Care to expand on that a bit. Not sure I understand.

Price of gas has gone up a LOT in California. They hit us with a 13 cent per gallon tax so that Gov can build his train from SF to LA. And now, I see the price of crude soaring ... it's gunna get to $4 a gallon soon. I can't afford that.
