Could someone please explain how Pool pricing works for the passenger?

Every time I think I have Uber Pool figured out, I find out I am wrong.

At first I though while both passengers were in the car they were splitting the cost of the ride, but I don't think thats the case. It seems its only beneficial to the second rider, while the first one gets screwed.

What you see as your payments coming from pax 1 and pax 2 have no relation to how much each one was charged. Uber pays you based on distance and time from point of first pick up to last drop off, as if it were one single ride. The split that they show you if for show. Each pax is charged an amount that was determined and fixed from the moment they requested based on the pickup and drop off location; this amount remains fixed and doesnt change no matter what you do.

I understand that, but how is it beneficial to the passenger? I have passengers ask me about it, but I have no idea how to tell them how much they are paying. Are they sharing the cost of the ride? Are they paying, for Los Angeles purposes, 11 cents a minute/95 cents a mile, or are they somehow sharing this cost?
Paxs share the car. Payments are all divorced from each other and have no relation between them.

Pax 1 gets quoted X amount for the trip. This amount remains fixed regardless of there being or not a second pax and how much that pax is charged, and regardless of how much the driver is paid.

Pax 2 gets quoted Y amount for the trip. This amount remains fixed regardless of there being or not another pax and how much that pax is charged, and regardless of how much the driver is paid.

Of course, those amount above are calculated by UBER based on the locations for pick-up and drop-off. But that is between UBER and riders.

Driver is paid for the total distance and time as per the local fares regardless of how many pax are picked along the way and how much those pax got charged. This is between UBER and driver.

Driver is NOT paid a % of what is charged to riders.

I am just saying the same thing with different words.

Interesting that passengers in LA ask so much about POOL. Here in Miami they do not ask, they just take them.
