Below is the email address to contact CPUC with your safety complaints, this is the branch of government that currently regulates Uber and Lyft. Have you ever been threatened with a bad rating unless you broke the speed limit, made illegal turns, fit more than the legal number of passengers in the car, or other illegal or unsafe actions? Let CPUC know that the rating system is leading to unsafe and illegal driving by drivers upon threat of deactivation.

Tried to post the link but this site won't let me post a link, ridiculous! Never had this happen before with a discussion forum before!

Thank you chi1cabby for posting this link. I just filed a complaint as an Uber driver. I had four people snuck in the back seat of my Prius, while the fifth one was distracting me. When I started the trip they openly admitted that they did it on purpose and told me to drive or else I will get *1 and be deactivated. I barely could control myself, but the distance was short and I wanted to retaliate by giving them *1, which they apparently didn't know I could do. Good luck getting Uber now!

It should also highlight (reiterate) the drivers are at risk of being canceled by their personal insurance policyholder as well as the possibility that the drivers could end up uninsured if their insurance carriers try to void the policies based on commercial use of their vehicles. Also, the possibility that Uber won't provide collision coverage on the drivers' cars as well drivers' medical bills if they are in an accident while driving a pax. This is still a grey area as far as I can tell. The solution they came up w/ to fix Uber's problem and make sure the passengers are covered by insurance has left the drivers in a precarious position, including lying to their own insurance companies. They may respond that rideshare insurance is available now. However, I would argue that it's not economically feasible for many drivers to change from their personal policies to get this insurance, particularly given the low rates today.

I think now is a good time to report all the safety issues and illegalities because I think I read somewhere recently that the CPUC is currently looking at adding/changing some regulations and when I contacted my local government representative I was told that CPUC is the only one that has authority to regulate these robber baron companies currently. Lets get rid of this idiotic rating system first.

One idea would be to do a form letter to the CPUC everyone can use but sign with their name. Might make it less daunting. Another would be to also do a petition to be signed by the drivers, perhaps something like a Change.org petition.
