I've just been downloading uber invoices for transfer into Myob. Invoices for 3 Jul and 10 Jul show 10% gst - which is what you would expect. All the invoices after the 10 Jul fail to mention any GST. So downloaded tax summary from Uber and there is no mention of any GST for Jul or August. So my question is "are we still paying 10% GST on the Uber fee or not".

That's an interesting way of doing things. If I give my ABN to Puma do you think they will stop charging me GST on the diesel?
No, because Puma operates in Australia. Uber doesn't. Uber is complying with the new "Netflix Tax" amendments to the GST laws. If you provide your ABN and GST details then all their fees are GST free, and if you don't then all their fees are including GST. My recommendation to every driver is do not provide these details to Uber. They've proven themselves unable to handle simple accounting and leave you worse off as a result.

You also pay 2.5% higher commission if you don't give ABN

Did you provide your ABN and GST details to Uber? If so, they won't be paying GST on any of their fees after the date you provided these details, so you can't claim GST credits for their fees.
Wait wait wait ... what do you mean claim GST credits on their fees? .. I've done 4 quarters of BAS and the only credits i've claimed have been such as - Phone/fuel/car wash/servicing

Are you saying I could have claimed more credits??

No, it's the same commission with GST added on. You can claim GST credits for it so there is no net difference. I guarantee that people have wasted more time and energy chasing missing 5 cent payments compared with simply claiming GST credits. Uber's incompetence wastes too much time.

From the 1st of July 2017, Uber was required to pay GST on all their fees unless an ABN and GST details were provided. If you haven't provided these details like me, you can claim GST credits for all their fees. If you have, you can claim credits for between the 1st of July and the date you provided your ABN and GST details.
