and you trust CNN for up to date news? lol

I watched the clip and read the piece - it's still very old news. Trump must be golfing today. It's just a big rehash of past mistakes - look at at the dates in the article, 2015, 2017. Uber and Lyft have made mistakes, they have owned up to it and are now doing thorough background checks. Just check out this weeks posts about potential drivers complaining that they can't work because of a delay on background checks.

Thousands of criminals were cleared to be Uber drivers. Here's how rideshare companies fought stronger checks

How about we celebrate all the wonderful things Lyft and Uber are doing for the masses? The article starts off talking about a driver in 2015. ...how can this not be old news?

It is being brought to light now.

Most of of the drivers on Uber and Lyft platforms are criminals. The local PDs and many of the customers already know this and have made it point to chase them out of certain neighborhoods.

This is just being truely disconnected with your customers. Uber and Lyft need to clean up their business.

This is why volume is absolutely garbage.

Yep - CNN is bringing it to light now. Without CNN we'd all be in the dark. Lost. Just drifting about.

I love this country but I am not so sure I trust its inhabitants to figure things out for themselves.

Background checks! Uh oh..... a reduction of 40% of the workforce means high surge everyday..... which means less ridership..... which means profit and valuation and profit go down not to mention the ability to treat drivers like free labor. So yeah..... they won’t check anything.... just keep fighting lawsuits.

If you have a record, chances of W-2 employment is close to zilch.
So, why not let "felons" participate in the gig economy and make a living ?
Subject to the same rules of maintaining a good driver rating, etc.
If you deny them, they are on public assistance or committing crimes.
Let's take a practical approach to the situation.

I'm sure Uber would be all for that.. IF they weren't liable for that 0.01% of ex-felons that would end up committing a crime while driving and getting Uber sued.

Level 2 FBI background checks would solve this (fingerprint cards.)
I say if the applicant has a non-violent criminal history, review it and let them drive.
For violent offenders, keep them off the platform.

That only works if they have a past history to pull from. What about all of the recent immigrants that are coming from war torn countries. I doubt they have the background on all those guys and many of them are driving for Uber and Lyft.

Doesn't Uber only exist because it arguably broke taxi laws somehow. The real criminals seems to be these tech entrepreneurs doing lines of coke in the back of a limo.
1. Uber exists bc TAXIS refused to go to Sunset District in SF.
2. Taxi industry in SF is a City sanctioned criminal enterprise.
3. Doesn't matter to me what idiots put up their noses. Uber mgmt is known for puss poor judgment.
