I have been driving Uber for last 2 weekends, Yes I'm a newbie. Are Austin Uber drivers carrying permits & commercial insurance. I'm reading online that City requires this. Input appreciated on this topic and any other helpful hints. Thanks.
AustinGal, hello and welcome to the forum.
I've been driving in Austin for the past 6 months. There are currently no trade dress, licensing, or commercial insurance requirements that you need to be worried about.
The city council is voting tomorrow about implementation of fingerprint background checks, a $1 per ride surcharge to be paid to the city, licensing (more of a registration which is hand in hand with the background check ), and if I remember correctly, displaying trade dress, at least when entering the airport.
I have attached a couple of older threads from last month's transportation committee meeting and a general discussion. The proposed changes should be attached in there somewhere, too.
