Saw a guy with a grey mullet and sunnies as Roy Orbison is blast over the shopping centre speakers.

As I make my way through the place, eyes are on me, as if they know I'm not from here!!!!

Help!!! Give me a fare outta here!!!! Please!!!!

What do you mean by that comment?

Tell me where I mentioned anything racist?

Thanks Viva!!
Fail to see what was even remotely racist about the OP. Hairist, yes. Racist, no. Luckily pointing out the poor follicular style choices of some folks isn't classified as an abuse of their freedom to mullet, perm or shave as badly as they see fit.

Well, pretty sure that joking about denying service to Chirnside park, while pointing out obvious racial stereotypes is racist, even in jest.

You may not see it that way and you might not even care if you do, but I'll stand by my comment. It was meant in the same silly fashion that the original comment was, so if you blow it out of proportion, you only have yourself to blame. Care or don't, just pointing out how I see it.

As Uber drivers, we all make racist decisions about where we go. It's always racist but it's only an issue when you announce it publicly - because you're trying to rally support for the stereotype. Just because you think it, doesn't mean you have to publicly advocate it. Exercise some self reflection.

Anyway, I really don't care to be honest. It's not like the white bogan crowd in Chirnside Park is a model of social acceptance anyway - I just think that flaming an entire town, on a forum of mostly immigrants, is a bit ironic in the absurd.

My, my.... I feel like you may be responding as this was a little close to home.

"I've" never seen you comment on anything else in our forum that may have slightly resembled racism when it involves items that may effect the "mostly immigrants" you describe in your response.

If you did, screenshot or it didn't happen.

And how is it ironic at all?? "Please explain" lol

How is it racist? I didn't mention skin colour.

Anyway, I'm a born and bred Aussie. So if I want to have a bit of a laugh at my own kind, who are you to tell me.

The Australia / Melbourne, and the people that grew up with me, and even the majority of aussies I meet or know now, are sick of all the bloody "PC" police.

Also, I'm not an old man who grew up in the olden days when immigrants were few, and misunderstood.

Have a sense of humour. The Aussie way was / is to have a laugh at yourself and others.

I agree there is racism out there. But if believe I was being racist, you are incorrect.

Too many people in the world using the racist card for every little thing these days.

I bet you thought the cartoon of Serena Williams was racist too. Did you?

Fair Dinkum Mate get over it.

True. Lol

I love my bogans though. Funny ****ers.

I do actually get why people don't though - they are pretty intolerant, beligerant, and racist. They dig loud cars and like my music though. Hell, I grew up as an American bogan. Is what it is.

As I posted - "can be" in this context, as it was in the OP.
Take offence if it makes you feel better, there was nothing racist in the OP.
Ok. I never took offense though...lol

Maybe read what I wrote instead of just arguing? I already said I was just as flippant with my remarks as the bunch of you all that got triggered. If it wasn't racist, why are you so worried that I think it was? If everyone calls everyone racist, why do you care? Seems to me that you care more than you let on.

But whatever, you go and make fun if white people, telling everyone to avoid Chirnside. Seems legit fair to me, no one could possibly get offended or feel racially targetted. Nope.

Lol yeah. It would be pretty epic.

That's racist too by the way.

Yeah, that's a flippant accusation too.

Yeah, I still think it's funny.

The word 'bogan' doesn't even appear in the OP yet somehow, with astonishing velocity, a few posts later, the OP is racist. Leaving aside the massive assumption wrongly attributed to the OP, last time I checked, bogan is not a race. Boganism (!) happily transcends race. The OP painted a picture of that special hell that is a Shopping Centre*. Nothing more. Much Ado About Nothing.

*If the Roy Orbison song playing was 'In Dreams', it is less diabolical. Both in 'Blue Velvet' and on its own, a great song.
Uh huh. White silly people with mullets, in Chirnside? Nooo... couldn't have meant us to think "Bogan".

So, your alternative is for us to believe we're supposed to avoid Chirnside because of one random, silly person? You deny the obvious Universalization going on there? How would the OP even make sense if we all weren't meant to contextualize it with a common motif?

Look, it was funny. I poked fun back. Ya'll went and got offended and then projected it all over me. It's as much a stereotype (and a disingenuous one at that) as making fun of folks out in Footscray or Sunshine. I've gotten plenty of great trips out there, same as Chirnside and, ggenerally, nothing like the stereotypes. It doesn't stop us joking about it. It doesn't mean it isn't more likely to be seen in those areas.

If you're going to make racial jokes, at least have the presence of mind to admit what you're doing. Half the point is to rub close to that racial line. You're gonna offend people - you meant to offend people. Hell, you even projected the hell out of it, insinuating that I'm offended. If you're going to be edgy, try and own it.
