TLC-licensed drivers who may have lost earnings as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency should apply to the NYS Department of Labor for unemployment benefits.
Drivers who are classified as employees by the NYS Department of Labor are eligible for traditional Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits. Apply online at labor.ny.gov/signin.
TLC-licensed drivers who are self-employed/Independent contractors are now eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits through the enhanced Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits provided by the federal CARES Act. To be considered for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits, you must first apply to the State Department of Labor.
