Oh Ok , summer2015 deal for sure it is gone by now .
What do you mean by " buy your current number" ?
Buying your phone number from the current company which have you the number will make it easier for you to transfer. Otherwise it always takes a few days to transfer.

Ask your current mobile company about the option of buying your current number. That number will be yours for life.

I have this number since 2010 and I was with Wind and I am with Chatre now but I am leaving them for sure in 1 or 2 days .
So now when I will activate my new SIM card , it will take few days to start with the new carrier ?
and do you mean buy the number from them that I will pay them money ?

When you transfer your phone number, the new company buys your number from the old company, who bought it from the telecommunications board. That's why when you go to a new company that insist on getting a new number, so they won't have to buy yours from your old company.
This sounds bizarre but it's true.

I see , but guess what ? It was always when I move to a new company , they will never even suggest to me to have a new # . and yesterday with Bell , the agent was telling me it will be better if you port your # with us than having a new # !!
Any way , do you have any idea how much I should pay to buy my # ?

Oh I guess that's a new one that they tell you to better port your number. I was working with a delivery service company when I got my bell service under that company's GST #. Since I made friends with the owner, I still pay my bill through them, until I get a GST #.

I honestly have no idea how much but I don't think it should more than $50. Every company probably have different rates. But call and ask.

What are your issues with signing up with Public Mobile?

Just bring your existing phone (or purchase a phone from elsewhere) to Public Mobile. Order sim card online, you'll receive it in a few days. Activate online, choose plan, insert sim card, and you are good to go.

- You get the same coverage as Telus clients
- You get the same data speeds as Telus LTE users
- You pay much less than Telus/Koodo/Bell/Virgin/Rogers/Fido plans

$195
- 90 Days of Unlimited Province Wide Talk
- 90 Days of Unlimited Canada-Wide Text
- 90 Days of 12GB

Yes, you can transfer your number. I assume you will be assigned a temp number when you activate until the porting of your existing number is complete. I assume it should take a couple hours and you should be able to use your existing carrier until the number has been ported over to Public Mobile.

Thanks djino ,
I received the SIM card and I might tomorrow activate it after I finish the leftover MBs with Chatre tonight .
They ask if I was reffered by someone , in fact you referred me , so if you want me to put your phone number to get the reward , I am OK with that .

Thanks,

I am officially with Public now . for the 90 days plan for $195+HST , Unlimited texts Canada wide , Unlimited calls province wide , 12GB LTE internet data ( you can say 4GB per month ) and the monthly fees will be $65+HST = $73.
I found it to be the most convenient one for now .

djino , I added your friend as a referral .

That is a little more than what I pay for my Rogers shared plan (in total it's $160 minus $15 credit+tax = $164 , so my part is $75) for unlimited text Canada and International (!!!), Unlimited calls Canada, 6 Gb per month shared interned, iPhone voice mail.

But I get unlimited Canada wide calling and unlimited texts anywhere (important for me, as I am currently texting with my parents in Crimea who are often without electricity and have no other means of communication other than text), and I have 6 Gb data every month.

Do you mean family plan by : Rogers shared plan ?
and yes it could be same price as me or even cheaper with Rogers or one of these main companies , but I will assume that was a previous offer or promotion and must be expired by now at the time and I want to subscribe with a carrier . (If you know what I mean?)

I hope and wish to your parents to be good and safe right there .

Good stuff Uberring . I assume so far things are working well? I thought you were opting for 6GB over 90 days (instead of 12GB)?

djino

Thanks for your wishes, Uberring! They are totally safe. It's just because Ukraine has been boycotting electricity supply to the Crimean peninsula since Fall 2015, and naturally there is shortage of power there. Russia is already working on building chain of electricity supply from mainland to Crimea. As soon as it's done, it's going to be ok.

As for Rogers, it's Rogers shared plan (called Share everything). It doesn't have to be family plan. Although it's advertised as one for family, yes.

It only works if you actually have two or more lines in your account. Individually each line will be more expensive, of course.

I'm on a slightly better plan from before than what they are offering now for the same money (I have 6GB shared, not 5GB), and I also have $15 monthly credit from before as a loyal customer (I've been with them since 2009). To get something like this from them now it needs to be a deal. I've tried Wind hotspot before and I had to cancel it because the quality is unacceptable and coverage is bad. I've decided that it cannot justify lower price.

In your case, as I understand, Publicmobile is a virtual operator on Telus network, so there should be no issues with connection. Hope it works out for you!

Is this something thats available for anyone to get (a new client)?

I get that each company has several Retention, Loyalty deals that are given when you threaten to cancel, and even deals if you happen to be employed by a specific business that are likely better than the Public Mobile plan that is available to ANY and EVERYONE, but if your specific plan is not advertised for anyone to sign up for, mentioning it doesn't provide much value to someone whos shopping around.
