So today I drop a rider in the city about 4.00pm, get stacked ping, rider cancels after 5 mins while I'm going around the 2 block detour to get to the Westin.

Another ping, rider cancels immediately after I accept. Another ping, I'm in the wrong lane so I turn left from the middle lane cutting off car behind, rider cancels.

Another ping in Hunter St where I am but needs a U-turn to get there straight away. At this point I cancel and get the **** out of there. I hate the city.

If there's a secret to successful Ubering in the CBD I'd love to hear it.

Likewise, CBD pickups are terrible and not good for business and ratings. Not only that, riders are waiting at No Standing and Bus Stop areas. I just cancel, drive off and msg them to let them know I don't pick up at those areas.

at the moment in the CBD is a total mess right now, they have closed off some of the main roads due to this stupid dumb light rail project which is causing massive traffic in the city, and plus the roads are F'd Up u can see pot holes and roads un even surfaces and broken roads which causes problems for our cars when we drive over them, there not one stable smooth road in the city, this is an absolute joke, they spend so much money on this light rail crap where they can spend the money and fix the city roads and improve traffic issues.

The whole point of the light rail is to help ease the traffic issues. It is short term pain for long term gain.

It really amazes me the number of riders who cancel when confronted with a 5min wait when taxi bookings are still "next available" with no specified arrival time.

Seems that the Uber revolution has made the riders over expecting of service capabilities.

That reminds me, has anybody else noticed that there is no longer a noise or notification when a rider cancels?

So feel your pain too mate.
I know they don't want to risk putting riders offside, but Uber seriously have to give some rules to riders in the city.
Otherwise Uber will run the risk of it becoming: City - Uber in - Cab out - and possibly a loss of market share.
It already is that way with at least one pax to whom I spoke in my car. She advised her partner not to bother getting an Uber in the city, just get a cab, because it's heaps easier. I noticed when I first tried Uber in the first two weeks of April that there were many trip requests in the city, and that they were horrible. (1) It took you forever to get to the rider, (2) the rider was usually somewhere unsafe or illegal and (3) the fare was usually just to somewhere else in the city, hence short. I found when I started driving again in late August that there were far fewer trip requests in the city, and they were mainly coming from the newbies, or users who otherwise didn't know any better. I strongly suspect that the ones who are more experienced with it just get cabs instead.

I've been very tempted to follow MyRedUber's lead, and simply go offline when I drop off in the CBD. I think the reason I have not is the four months I spent driving a cab, 90% of which was in the CBD, which gave me much knowledge of that area. Because every now and then I get lucky with a pickup request that I actually know I can get to quickly, easily - and stealthily if need be. Otherwise I reject the request and go offline to avoid getting temporarily locked out of the app while I leave the CBD.
