The local car dealers have been using Uber to shuttle their customers to and from the service department. I can see where that would save them money – they have fired all their “porters” – the shuttle drivers, replaced them with Uber. Trouble is –the clients do not call the Uber to pick them up in the countryside and drive them to the dealership. That’s all done by the service advisors at the dealership. They simply enter the name of the PAX on their account, send the ride request.
I’ve done many of these trips, each time a little irked that I am never tipped or rated! I talked to one of the advisors today and he told me ALL dealerships in their network are going that route. That’s a ton of dealerships giving their customers FIVE STAR shuttle service, and not compensating the five star driver (almost).
Another group of no-loads sucking up cheap passenger transport are doctor’s offices. These guys have us shuttle their sick, lame lazy – same deal. We drop off – no rating, no tip. I helped an old guy from the car into this facility – carried him most of the way – brought him right to the check in desk. I look on the wall, there’s a sign that says, “This is not an Uber Driver Lodge. Please drop your passengers and depart. The use of cellphones is prohibited.”
These “automated” rides for businesses - using us like drones. Pisses me off.
We need a freaking Union, or UBER – we need to be comp’d for stuff like this.
