Never thought that I'd be posting this, but here goes.
A driver that I work with and his wife and I thought that we'd go to the MGM for late lunch/dinner.
Got on my trusty Uber app for its virgin run.
An hour later, still no Uber.
No provision for XL? What!!!
I thought that Uber was gonna "serve the community" and even for residents of Vegas to be able to get transportation instead of waiting for an hour, or two hours, or sometimes six times, and often NEVER for a cab to show up.
I scroll the app map around and see all these cars clustered around the Strip.... one was moving toward another Uber.
Hey.... my house is right between the Strip and Maryland Pkwy on Oakey Bl.... literally right in the shadow of the Straosphere at certain times of the year when the sun is setting.
After over an hour and exactly TEN requests, I decided "screw it" and said that I would drive and be the designated driver while not having to wait for a stagnated driver.
And working in the industry, we know what it's like to drive, and actually tip.... but of course you'd rather pull the little Uber tag off the windshield and tell a passenger to ride in front so as to look like they are family.
Maybe even give them a hug and a little peck on the cheek after you unload the luggage? LOL!
God forbid that anybody up on Craig Rd. needs a ride because it'll be a fkn long wait.

I think I'll start writing some letters and emails.
Plus, I have a "public official (elected)" who lives seven houses down from me.
Whatta buncha jerkoffs.

Haha, so true.

I looked at the app last night (Sat) around 10pm. It looked like an Uber caravan up and down LV Blvd, Flamingo and Trop.. I mean literally...not a single vehicle on Paradise/Frank/Dean and every car moving.

I live by Suncoast...app said it would be 15 minutes to get a ride. There was not a single car north of W. Lake Mead and a few driving around (hey, let's all waste gas!) Red Rock. Otherwise, NW was an Uber wasteland.

Sure, I'm guilty of working the Strip...but only if a suburban fare took me there. I'm not wasting gas dead heading back so I'll work the day fares. Luckily, I've scored 3 fares late afternoon that took me close to home.

Uber has really screwed up this rollout. Like Uber-Doober says, no XL? I've heard from friends that work security at a few hotels that said they transmitted to both TNCs where the pickup/drops would be...yet neither had let the drivers know...so some hotels are getting pissed off. And don't get me started on the Uber Fee.

That is why.... thats a dangerous area bro.
^^^
You're full of crap too.
Also, the historical district's property values didn't fall as far as they did even in Summerlin.
Get to read Metro's site and learn the color of those little dots and compare them to where you live.
I suggest that you stay locked up cowering in your little toyota over by the Wynn.
I'll give you another golden heads up.... there is NO good area in Vegas, NLV (especially), or Hendo.

Uber-Doober, when I've ended up north strip, the McD's at Paradise/Sahara is my rest stop maybe lunch place. Able is the Manager. Normal (not jacked up tourist) prices. Made a couple of pickups in your turf. I'll wave next time.
^^^
My favorite Mickie D's.
You're talking about the one on the boulevard just South of Sahara on the West side of the street next to where the old Westward Ho was, right?

Nope, faces Sahara right at Paradise. Kind of looks like a real old one with a classic car parked in front. Small strip center that also has a 7/11 and a Subway.
^^^
Oh, yeah... forgot all about that place. Almost had to do a Google street. I think that's a really busy one.
And actually I think that it is an old one if I remember correctly.
I heard that it was one of the first.
Doesn't it have ceramic tile on the outside or something like that?
Never been in that one but it's not far from the house. Closer than the one that I thought you were talking about.

I find it very hard to believe one couldn't get an Uber in an hour near the Stratosphere. There's a lot missing from the story...
-Did the OP request an XL (and thus probably way limited the amount of people actually able to get to them)? Or were they saying one can't even request that in Vegas?
-Did the OP get rides which cancelled? How many? Or were they the ones to cancel the ride?
-If any were, was there any communication at all from the drivers? Did the OP try communicating?

Not to mention, complaining that one driver was moving toward another....why is that wierd? Not everyone looks at the passenger app all the time to see if there's any other cars nearby. Our driver app does NOT show this.

And having done this for six days now, let me tell you -- unless you specifically drive away from the strip after every drop off or refuse strip requests (both taking them initially and taking the fare there), a really large percentage of fares will be in and around it, both pickup and drop off. It's just the nature of what "people who don't have a car in Vegas" need. And a smart person won't waste gas and miles running around to maybe get a decent suburb fare unless they are nearby anyway.

But this is why surge pricing exists....so that drivers WILL move toward the directions people need it. From what I gather, surge pricing (and non-surge, but active areas) is somewhat based on 'historical data' so if requests regularly get made from certain areas at certain times a day, drivers will be shown that.

And incidentally, I was up on Craig Rd. on Wednesday and would have gladly given a ride there rather than having to go all the way to Downtown (which granted ended up being a really good fare)

Was just watching 7 Ubers all on the Strip going in the same direction between Sands and Trop.
LOL.
The 8th. one was on Koval.... apparently he learned the back way into some hotels without having to put up with Strip traffic.
Either that or he was a former cabbie who knew the ins and outs, or maybe a guy who used to pick up and deliver rental cars who also learn the time savers.
