1.4x--Rider was in car. I told him that I had not been told it was a long trip. I wrote to uber to say that's why I cancelled and they gave me a 4.00 cancel fee.
Going to IAD at 4pm is a deadhead/3 hour r/t back-no thanks.
I only get IAD trips during evening rush hour. Nope.no more.

Just use your DF. Ubers very inconsistent. Next time deactivated!
I would have taken it
30.00 fare /3 hours =$10.00 hr. Best case 2.5 hrs/$12.00hr.
Might as well wash dishes.

Actually with the 1.4x more like $40. Put your DF back to DC hopefully grab $15-$20 in return fares and no worse/better.

Not a chance. Reston and Herndon don't go to DC after 4 pm. Tysons might have some, but highly doubt it.

Some of y'all are complaining about the wrong things. That trip would've taken an hour max, around 24 miles...at least $40 in your pockets. Then after dropping off drive around the suburbs, plenty of rides in Reston and Tysons.

To make $40 in DC, how long and how many rides would it take if each ride took 12 min for 1.8 miles in rush hour.

Don't take things for granted.

It was 20 miles.
Picking up rides around around that area has not worked out for me before. Don't want to wait at IAD lot. So, you need to do the math. 35.00/2.5 hrs=14.00. No thanks.

The only reason I got the ping in the first place is because it's a crappy ride.

^You should not and don't have to wait at the IAD lot. There are many places you can drive to. Take the exit to Reston Town Center. Go to Vienna. Go to Merrifield. Go to Tysons. Don't drive back on the highway.
Where are you getting 2.5 hours from? It takes an hour max to Dulles. You're doing it wrong if you're deadheading back on the highway and 66. Head east going through the places mentioned above. And even if you deadhead back it shouldn't take 90 min, probably 45 min. So more like 35.00/1.75, putting you at $20/hr, much better than rush hour city driving. You're also doing it wrong if it only takes 20 miles from NW DC to Dulles.

And it's not a crappy ride. A lot of us would happily take that ride. A crappy ride is from DC to Arlington going through 395. A ride going through 16th st. A ride going through New York Ave. A Union Station ride to Georgetown. Any ride to Georgetown.

A crappy ride is Arlington to Nats Park during rush hour. It was a surge but not high enough. Never again...

Don't be such an a-hole by being so condescending. You didn't read my post.

I said waiting at IAD was not an option.
I said that picking up rides in that area has not worked out for me in the past. The last time I dead-headed back at 5pm it took 90 mins. The beltway, the Gw parkway and 66 are at a stand still.

Quit projecting your experience onto mine.

And finally, not sure why you think that a local (who's in a hurry, btw) would tolerate some inefficient route to IAd. It was 20 miles -I checked.
It worked for me this morning. No luggage. This rider wanted to surprise a friend coming to DC for the first time. I was going to Tyson's Corner after DC rush hour anyway. Did it earlier. I got the long trip notification.

To be clear: I would do this trip all day long except evening rush.

I feel you. It's depends on the workload thru out the day, too. If I had been driving for the morning and midday and that trip came up ...I just might be too tired to wing it out there.

Driver and vehicle safety first.
Rush hour from DC in the evening is a terrible way to make a living at least for me. Traffic is so bad I may get one good run in maybe two. So I take this trip because I figure I'm going to be stuck in traffic no matter what. I've done this quite a few times. I run to the Tyson's area and set my DF to DCA and frequently get another ride and out of that area. Some dead head from Dulles to Tyson's but that's just part of the game. Now deadhead past DC I'd hate. But I'm always surprised how much Tyson's to DCA I get around 5 or 5:30.
