It's my third month driving for Uber, and I found it doesn't make a lot of sense if there is no surge pricing or if you deal with low ranked riders. Hence, due to cherry-picking, my acceptance rate is at 50-60%. With incentives, it was around 70-80%.

I have been receiving regular "Earn more: The more you accept, the more you earn..." emails and texts from Uber. Today I got a message that "repeated warnings could result in you losing access to the Uber platform", which is intimidating given my pretty good 4.85 ranking.

Any thoughts on whether they can really deactivate my account because of low acceptance? If I am not mistaken, the class action lawsuit prevents them from doing so.

I see they also started to give me 30 min time-outs, instead of earlier 4 min ones. When I asked them to compensate for my lost productivity and to explain what is going on with the increased timeouts and whether they can explain their policy regarding the acceptance rate, they wrote back to me:

"I understand the frustration when the Uber Partner app isn’t working and I’m incredibly sorry for any inconvenience caused. Our team is working hard to prevent issues like this from happening again in the future.

On the Uber system, you only receive fares for trips completed through the Uber app.

Again, we know that tech issues can be extremely frustrating and we appreciate your patience as we resolve them and work to prevent them in the future."

It seems their right hand is trying to punish me with longer timeouts, while the left hand is apologizing for a glitch... Wtf?

according to the new terms and conditions uber has stipulated that they cannot deactivate you for not accepting requests. we received notice right after uber agreed to settle the lawsuit. the reason why uber does not deactivate you for low acceptance anymore is because we are not employees; this gives us the right to not accept due to long pick ups or low rated pax. uber did state that they will put you in a time out, but no they cannot deactivate you for not accepting pings.

Big daddy fuber can do what ever they want to you, they beg you to slip up so they can show you how unimportant you are to them. Besides your just a driver? Why would uber need you?
that's true, uber could do what they want. they can deactivate you just because a rider says something about you like that you touched her breasts or something. you are definitely driving at a risk. always remember the uber driver that went to jail for rape and then was cleared because uber pax lied.
so yeah uber can deactivate you anytime they want for any reason but no, according to the new terms, the answer is that they do not have the right to deactivate you based on low acceptance rating.

So far as I understand it the terms of that settlement still haven't been approved. But they can definitely deactivate you for any of the sexual assault scenarios as listed above and I support that whole heartedly.

tohunt4me got it right (there's a first for everything!) Uber owns the app. So just like you can be denied access to the Duke Nukem #4,962 platform for any reason, you can be denied access to Uber, partner or pax for any reason at all. That won't change regardless of the settlement and remember THEY'RE NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL YOU WHY THEY DEACTIVATED YOU.

You can not be deactivated... Just don't accept and cancel too often !!

High acceptance rates are a critical part of reliable, high-quality service, but not accepting trip requests does not lead to permanent deactivation.

Consistently accepting trip requests helps maximize earnings for drivers and keeps the system running smoothly. We know that sometimes things come up that prevent you from accepting every trip request, but not accepting dispatches causes delays and degrades the reliability of the system.

If you are consistently not accepting trip requests, we will notify you that your ability to remain online may be at risk. If your acceptance rate does not improve, you may temporarily be logged out of the app for a limited period of time.

I still don't know why I haven't received a 30 minute timeout yet. My acceptance rate is so low and I get about 5-6 4 minute time outs a day but I still have yet to start with the 30 minute ones.

here is the answer. uber stated that you can only be logged out for a period of time. no deactivation. uber has changed their policy. you have the right to let pings go through to the next driver. you are not an employee.

Also, there is an Acceptance Rate, a Cancellation Rate & Completed Trips. Learn to work all three to keep your ACCEPTANCE RATE above 80% and you won't experience the time-outs.
