This morning I had a 2 rides to Hobby. The second one just happened to live in a Houston zip code in the clear lake area. Even though one more street over would be considered Webster or Nassau Bay. Anyways I dropped him off and there happened to be 2 ARA inspectors waiting there. I have been driving since 2015 and have never seen them waiting at the departures. I was given 3 citations. All related to not having TNC. I only do this 2 days a week. I live in clear lake area. I don't want to work in the city but since they saw the Houston zip code I got the citation. Anyone have any experience with what to do at this point? I called the city help desk but that was pretty useless. Any help would be appreciated.

Go to your arraignment and talk to the asst DA and explain the situation. You will probably have to settle the tickets for about half the fine. Get the TNC and the airport stickers, tickets are not worth it. If you get a lawyer you will probably pay about the same amount. The ARA officer will show up for the trial date. They show up unlike HPD. So you probably won't get them dismissed for lack of a state witness.

This really is an UBER issue. You should hire a lawyer and sue UBER for giving you an illegal ping within the Houston City Limits. UBER knows you don't have a TNC sticker and it is their responsibility to ensure that you do not get any pings in areas where you are not allowed to drive. There is absolutely no problem if you pick up outside the city limits and drop a passenger off anywhere within the city limits. This ticket is a result of UBER's failure to properly manage their app and you should not be held responsible for their lack of due diligence.

Curious, how much are the tickets?
I don't know yet. I asked the ARA guy what it be and he gave me the "it's up to the court" answer.

Its so cheap and easy to get now, there is no reason not to get it. Also, I wonder if they will dismiss your citation if you get the TNC before your court date.
This is what I want to know. If this is going to be some crazy $1000 fine I wonder if I could get it reduced or dismissed if I just show proof of obtaining the license before the court date.

You should give it to uber to pay but for you. I hear in New York uber loves to pay those tickets. Guys I'm watching your forum. My wife is getting a job in Houston TX and were from New York. I really don't want to do the taxi gig anymore but I may need a little sup money until I get situated. How's driving uber in Texas?

Whoa. Stop.

You do not need a tnc to drop off at the airports.
According to the TNC Houston ordinance, you technically do. They just don't seem to enforce it. See pics at bottom.

Not illegal if he voluntarily handed it over.
In the ordinance it states you have to show proof of a trip if asked. So once you admit you're dropping off a pax they can ask to see the trip data on your phone.

If you have no city or airport permit you're better off having pax sit in front and pretend to be a friend. No trade dress, obviously.

Good luck with that.

I recognize this type of advice. You obviously received your law degree from the Facebook School of Law.

I did submit it as a fare review. I got the typical canned response of we don't cover traffic violations even though this is a non moving compliance issue.

Ley us know if they deactivate you for not having tnc sticker.

They used to be big on that.

However, I thought they would of taken care of it as a previous poster stated.

Its probably your best bet. Sullo and Sullo is the law firm I use for traffic tickets. Its a big name firm, but for traffic tickets and such, its fine to use. Pretty sure they take the prosecutors out for happy hour every once in a while or something. I know its not a traffic ticket, but I am almost sure they can help. Proof of the TNC could help out a lot.

At no time did he agree to the Ara terms..... all he needs to state that he's an outside the city driver dropping off. let me guess the guys name was Chris. Fight it at no time should you been able to pick up in the city limits. Go to uber office and get proof that you set up for outline area only.... Written statement will do.
