You can have a camera, but you need to have the proper stickers on the rear doors! On the TLC website it has a few camera that are listed there as "approved" so I think you can only used the cameras they approve to record inside the vehicle...

I was not aware that you could only used approved cameras... Been searching the website for those cameras

Strange that uber has soooo much control over "independent contractors".
It's not uber, it's TLC...but in NYC, the drivers have been considered independent contractors or owner/operators for a very long time before Uber came along. And keeps the restrictions on the drivers to their affiliated bases, who can hold you accountable to do their work like an employee, but that's another story.

I believe in all language of law recording sound is illegal unless otherwise approved by a judge. A rental owner could have gps on the car so they'll always know where your at but I doubt they'll invest in cameras to spy on you
