Newb here and new to driving in this beautiful city...

So, I picked up a 'late for work' PAX at Broadway and Lyon(9am-ish), on way to Mission & Spear - GM directed me through the tunnel but there was a sign up saying there was a 30min delay in the tunnel so I turned on Larkin and went a bit too far down, I think. GM's route was to continue on Larkin to Post and then left on Mission. The PAX wasn't thrilled about this. A better alternative? Would it have been better to avoid Broadway entirely and if so, which route would you suggest?


I used to love google maps but it is driving me nuts - at least a 30 sec delay before registering a U-turn and if I do two on one block with a pool, it does not look good

It is very painful to drive in that tunnel, my friend., especially in the mornings. Avoid the Broadway tunnel in the mornings, at all costs. Google Maps doesn't know what the hell is going on inside the tunnel, take Pacific instead.

If they’re late, they’re late. They’re not gonna be happy regardless of the route. Just typical entitled pax not wanting to take responsibility.

If you’re not familiar, you could tell the pax the ETA based on the GPS. Or ask if the pax prefers a route/knows a better route.

Instead of Post > Montgomery > Mission > Spear

Post > Montgomery > Market > Spear
It’s super-slow between 2nd and 1st Street on Mission

It’s also a bottleneck on Post/Bush and Montgomery to Market

I dont work mornings cuz of my other job but I wouldve taken Pacific or Clay all the way to fidi

You did the right thing next time just ask Pax if they have a route they prefer , it's something I do every morning it makes my morning a lot less annoying lol some pax immediately say something but the nasty ones just sit and wait for you to get stuck haha either way I never do the tunnel though.

Actually waze isn't to be trusted at the tunnel either

That’s the first pax I’ve heard of that gets upset that you avoided the tunnel. I always go around it in the morning even if gps told me to go through it, and the paxs always thank me for doing so.

That sign that says 30min delay is up all day. I chanced it many times (Non -A.m.) and there were no traffic on Broadway. But it's like Russian Roulette...

Be me. Pick up PAX deep in Presidio Heights around 7:45. Heading to Bay Club. See sign on Bway regarding 30 min delay in tunnel. PAX says do it. We go through. No construction on other side. Drop PAX and ignore cpl pings on return to Pac Heights. Surge 2x pick up Pax going to 100 Cali. Requests specifically to avoid Bway tunnel. I suggest Cali all the way, she disagrees. I tell her I just went through tunnel with no delay, she says go. We go. Brake lights happen less than 10 cars deep from the other side. 25 min later we emerge and witness a few rounds of bulldozer#1 scooping pile of dirt and handing off to bulldozer # 2. Repeat. FML.
At least PAX was cool about it, but killed my AM.
