Driver goes to police to report a Brisbane cabbie following him and taking pictures then the officer turns it around and hands him a $10,000 fine for operating a taxi service without a authorised taxi.

I think the real news story is the discrepancy in the fine amount.

This highlights the ******ed legislation. Police, Main Roads and government need to be accountable for the humiliation, discrimination and attitude in the way these fines are administered. They think its a big joke and laugh to the extent of having contests. Looking at drivers phones and personal details. All I can say is any other give day this is invasion of privacy and bullying which is illegal. I have seen drivers pulled over who are not uber and told to show TMR their phones. As for this police officer should be suspended. This is not how you deal with the public.

How would you suggest TMR, Police and Legislators identify and penalise illegal activity or business ventures that don't conform with the appropriate legislation?

so if you're an uber driver you cant report any crime, threatening behavior or anything to Qld Police as they will do nothing with your complaint but they will fine you $10K !!!

Wow... should telephone Ch 7 & say I witnessed a car jacking, armed robbery, violent assault etc but cant help the police because they will just fine us .... **** the pigs...

The story doesn't go into detail how the officers attained he was an active Uber driver, likely Mr Will blasted into the cop shop saying I'm a proud Uber driver and a taxi is following me!

If your reporting a crime, there is no reason to inform anyone of Uber unless the crime is incorporated with Uber or an Uber passenger.

With a little more courtesy. Its all bs anyway. We pay gst and tax so they already know who the uber drivers are. They still need to remember uber drivers have families and lives.

Thats the problem. The legislation is not appropriate. 2 years uber has been on the coast and government has done nothing. 1 month till review and they decide to penalise before its too late. Over 500 hours of tax payers money to fine drivers and not the time to sit with uber. Why is uber illegal????? No real answer other than safety issues. What a load of bs.

totally agree...I'm not surprised... there are plenty of scummy cops out there.. Police should care more about someone following and harassing someone than about uber

Whats annoying is do passengers get fined. No. So its not illegal??? How can they legislate saying its illegal to drive for uber yet if your a passenger its okay to use uber. Wtf!!! One word comes to mind.....Entrapment. so I can smoke drugs but I cant grow them. Example only
No wonder drivers get confused. Federal government says we pay gst because we are a taxi yet QLD says were not a taxi. Either way we get screwed. Governments need to pull their head in and let the people decide what they want. They can make the public aware of any concerns but at the end of the day if I want to catch an uber I will. Its called democracy and a freedom of choice.

Cab drivers comply with the necessary laws and accreditations. Uber drivers need to remember that cab cab drivers have families and lives.

The fact that he would get fined should have been expected. If you go into a police station and say a drug dealer ripped you off and gave you flour instead of coke, you'll be in trouble too. The video does not tell whether the police investigated the complaint though so I don't see anything wrong here aside from the amount of the fine.

I don't believe you would be in trouble at all. They surely would be happy to know the drug dealers name and address but not to help you get your coke. They can't fine/arrest you because you have flour.

the cabbie was probably following because he was a suspected uber X driver.

And as Instyle implied he probably proudly told the officer he was an uber driver.
