So, my “opportunities” are all this tiny area over 80 miles away. They’re all the same, all this tiny far away zone, and I’m never offered anything different. Is this normal? Is there something in my settings that makes Uber think this is appealing? How can I get opportunities closer to home?

Well traveling 80 miles without getting paid for it is certainly out of the question. Not to mention 80 miles BACK if a trip is not headed toward home base. At 70 cents a mile for costs/replacing vehicle even Ubers 90 cents a mile there at the Cape isnt worth going there. Almost 4 miles with a customer paying to pay for 1 mile deadheading is not wise math.

Uber does that to me too, trying to waste my money. Just decline.

Now I've got a reservation that I accepted for 30 miles away and can't cancel, what to do? Let it die in the wind I guess.

in my case the "opportunities" are what is available in my market, the hub of which is 200+ miles away. Everyone in the entire Greater Minnesota market gets the opportunities for St. Cloud, no matter where the drivers happen to be. It is a pretty steady +$3 boost there, day in and day out.
