Hello,

I have never used uber before.

I will arrive in Sydney this Sunday. I want to book an uber from international terminal to mascot train station. Uber fare calculator tells me that it will cost me about $15. Uber has a $20 deal going from Sydney airport. I want to know that whether I need to have some balance in my account to request uber though reaching to mascot station will be covered in $20 deal most probably. Can I enjoy such free ride? :)

Any help would be appreciated.

There is no balance in the Uber account. You get charged when you complete the trip through your debit/credit card.

In your case, you need to have a valid debit/credit card in your account but it won't be charged. Just make sure it is the first trip on this account.

Sorry for the silly question. Its just that I haven't used uber before. So I can image me travelling with a pissed off driver.:D
Just book the Uber when you arrive, make sure you are the yellow express pickup zone when you book, only 15 mins free parking..so call driver to make sure he is coming, don't disclose your destination...

If you feel guilty about the short fare, tip the driver..that will cheer him/her up. :)

Hello Scotsman.
Perhaps you might clarify something for me here.
I was under the impression that when a trip was booked, the app 'froze' or 'reserved' an approximate amount in the account. A bit like a hotel does.
So if you had a debit card linked to your (Uber) account and there was no money in that (debit card) account the booking would not complete.
Similarly, if the Uber account was linked to a credit card and the credit card was maxed out, the booking would not complete.

Over the months I have had many pings where the ping disappears and a message such as 'Invalid Request' appears.
I have always assumed that these 'Invalid Request' pings were because the approximate funds for the trip could not be 'reserved'. What are your thoughts on this?

Not true. I've taken an Uber with no money in the account. They just keep trying to charge every few days until successful. And at that point one could not take a second Uber trip until the balance is settled.
OK. How do you know there is no money in the account?
Is this someone's card left in your car that you have had the good fortune to put to productive use?
