Evening Standard: Uber says English test will put 33,000 minicab drivers out of business. http://google.com/newsstand/s/CBIwncWMuDQ

That 33,000 figure needs to be doubled at least.
If Uber paid a decent and fair wage they wouldn't be in this predicament in the first place.
Dream on English test don't needed if you have Nvq level done and I got paid to do my Nvq done back in 2012 from addlee good days haha

So who are you against..Uber? It's drivers? TFL? Or all?
In all honesty it's TFL who are 100% at fault. Uber are just another company trying to make rich people richer. The city is literally full of them. Us cabbies don't have heated discussions about tescos using palm oil in its products. We don't boycott shops selling clothes made by Asian children. We all bank with money men who are tied in with unscrupulous investment bankers....and we drive them home after a coked up night out (them not us)
The safety issues, the unfair wage situation, the tax avoidance, the fact that travis is a creep would have little importance to most of us if they weren't our competition. They aren't a nice company for their 'partners' or their competition but there a loads of firms just as bad.
I also don't have a problem with uber drivers. I try not to be behind one for obvious reasons and I am mindful of them if they are to my side. The fact is though they are just trying to make a living and mostly when I speak to them they are nice blokes.
Their customers just want to get from A-B for as little poss. They don't care how that price got so cheap and no matter what they tell the the driver, they could care less about the uber/black cab politic's. Their journeys in either are a pretty inconsequential part of their day.
So that leaves us with TFL. Our 'woefully inadequate' regulators. The people who sell the knowledge with fork tongue. Do the kol and have sole rights to ranking, use of a meter and instant hire. Ply for hire anywhere inside the M25. These guys only give operator licences to those of good conduct. A working landline. To transport providers. Similar to the labour government's estimation of Eu immigration numbers, TFL weren't prepared. They weren't prepared for the meter issue that resulted in a high court hearing. They weren't prepared with CO numbers. They weren't prepared for dipping in and out of insurance policies. They weren't prepared for the high number of prius arriving the same time as road space diminished. To keep the charade going and in denial of deregulation they up the black cab anti. Mandatory card acceptance, ULEZ taxis by 2018 and a tariff revue. Yes it's TFL we have a problem with.

Interesting read. Maybe you have have no problems with us PH drivers, the majority of you're colleagues do, and it's quite evident. Yes I am aware some of my colleagues may have issues with BC drivers, but why do you think that is?

Despite working on a part time basis, the abuse I get is worrying. I ignore most of them. A mature BC driver spat on my windows before driving off..I had passengers and they witnessed it, and sent a tweet out immediately. I remained calm and professional, but the damage is done.

Actually a very accurate and sensible post. Passengers don't care about the politics.

I agree nearly with everything you say, just uber didn't come to London to compete. They came here to change the rules and liquidate the trade (both bc and minicab) and introduce their own rules. So for me, the main responsibility for allowing this mess lays with TfL and the points you've listed are very valid but Uber is the evil character in this story.

You're talking as if uber owe you something. Uber only owe it's investors. If they have to bully or bend rules to make money they will. If they have to squeeze partners and take away the competition it's just business. None of it is personal. They don't even know who you are. If you didn't drive for a living you would have so little interest in them. they are just doing what thousands of other companies do every single day. As our regulators TfL should have taken more of an interest.

Luckily they don't owe me anything. They might be short of money soon :)

They don't know me, I don't know them and they came here to chopped my head off. Only because a group of people thinks, that slice of bread is too little for them. They want, for me personaly not very clear reason, whole loaf for themselves and leave others, and among them also myself, with crumbs. So for me is actualy very personal and they are evil for me.

But I am a realist. I don't go each Sunday onto local high street to hand over leaflets about modern greed. I am with you. TfL is where the pressure has to be put on.
