Re-match is pausing at PDX
Beginning April 22, the Re-match feature at Portland International Airport (PDX) will be paused until further notice as we make ongoing improvements to the airport pickup experience for riders and drivers. If you would like to receive an airport request after dropping off a rider, you'll need to proceed to the airport waiting lot.

Just when you thought that being a driver could not get any lamer, they found a way.

I love how they just keep chipping away at what little we have.

Bonuses-gone
Surges-gone
Fair per mile rate-gone

And now this BS.

Just go away from the waiting lot and never go there after you drop off your rider.

How exactly is this "improving" the experience? By forcing us to leave empty? By forcing us to drive further? By forcing pax to wait longer for a ride?

Taking away that close in turn around loop was bad enough. This just F'ing sux.

I think I know what is going on here.

The waiting lot is often low on drivers and that's because of the rematch. With rematch the drivers in the lot have to wait a lot longer so there is less incentive to stay in the lot. Because of this fewer and fewer drivers are sitting in the lot because it takes so long to get a ride out of there. When there is a surge then there aren't enough drivers and Uber loses customers to Lyft and vice versa.

If we were to go away from the waiting lot after we drop off a rider then the lot would have less cars. Uber and Lyft are pushing us into the lot to make sure there are enough cars there to meet the needs at high demand. Uber and Lyft don't care about the drivers. All they care about is meeting the demand of the customers. We don't cost either of them a dime when we are just sitting anywhere waiting for a ping.

As I have said over and over, ride sharing companies don't care about the drivers. We are just expendable consumables that are written off at the end of the day. Kind of like paper napkins at a restaurant. Once used they are thrown away never to be thought of again. They just buy more napkins.

Ride sharing is working hard to get rid of drivers. That is a big share of their income and reducing drivers means more profits for ride sharing.

If you are looking at ride sharing as a full time job get out. Start looking for another job because this is one will not be viable over time. Uber has already said they may never be profitable because the supply of drivers is finite and in a good economy they will be hard to find and in a poor economy everyone will want to be a driver and that will drive out drives as they can't make enough to justify the costs involved. Either way this industry is going to have problems. If they increase the fares then they will have less customers as many will decide it is just too expensive to use ride sharing.

All valid points except that if you look at taxi rates Rideshare is typically less than half. So they can raise the reason it got lowered was competition between Uber and Lyft for market share. People also still think Lyft treats their drivers better and Lyft exploited that gained market share and then still screwed the drivers.

It's the law of supply and demand. As long as there are drivers to sign up, ride sharing will try to pay them as little as possible. People who do this for a living and actually bought a car to do this are going to get screwed big time. They will be stuck with payments they can't afford. They will be working for less than minimum wage and working 60 hours a week to make ends meet.

Ride sharing does a great job of convincing people that they treat their drivers right. In reality they treat us like expendable commodities that are to be thrown away at the end of each day.
