The drop-off and pickup roundabout is "geo-fenced" so you cannot receive pings at JWA. However, I have been pinged right as I was dropping someone off, so who knows. I always see at least 6-8 cars on the rider app sitting there, there's just such a surplus of drivers in Newport/Costa Mesa right now that unless you want to drive around fishing, it's near impossible to get steady requests during the day.

There are no rules. Just have trade dress up. Geo fenced? I get pings all the time to go there. It even shows the terminal to go pick up at.
Sorry if I wasn't clear before, but yes you can accept pick ups from JWA, but once you are in the pick-up/drop off area, you cannot accept pings until you leave and go onto MacArthur/Campus.
Via the Uber website, once you are in the round-about, you cannot accept pings. They have a map which outlines the specific section and says "you will not accept pings if you are in this area". As for pick ups and drop offs, yeah its all good.

I won't say how many rides I get, how good or bad they are or how long I wait. That's for you to find out (not me), because Iv done a lot of homework and the last thing I need is to post it online to be exploited.

1) there are a lot of cars there anytime of day

2) uber says you go into a que.

3) I've received pings while dropping off and while accidently driving through.

Min Fare, plus AP fee, minus 20% = +.15 cents , Minus gas, now your in the negative. Gosh I jus love giving free rides.

If I ever have the misfortune again to get a request from there, I'm callin for the destination. It's the only way to solve that problem.

Yep gotta love JWA and the majority of $4.00 - $7.50 rides to the local hotels. Uber needs to put a minimum fee of say $10 for uber x. making $2.40 on the minimum ride is really too low. Cheapens the uber experience for the rider and hurts the drivers income, thus making the driver call ahead to refuse those short rides. At least with a $10 minimum the rider still gets a cheap ride and the driver can pay his expenses and make a profit on the ride. Just my two cents. Anybody else feel that way?

How about the cheap X riders use the free shuttle provided by the hotels? 2 star those that are minimum and don't tip when getting airport rides. The only time I have picked up there is when I was 2 miles away and got a 2 x surge. Luckily, rider went into Costa Mesa for a decent fare. I turned one down going past Buena Park when I was a mile away. I wanted to get home and I hope another time I get that one Even at non surge.
