Just saw on the news (KTlA) a new flying car that holds 4 and travels up to 200mph, no pilots license required and just received the FAA green light to proceed.

!

Ok Uber, beat that. Everyone so busy developing ground transportation, How about the future of air transportation. Look out United, American and Delta. Your days are numbered.

Maybe that world domination thing won't work out so well for them after all. :)

Do they have a working prototype of that already? I saw something very similar to that hovering over the 5 / 605 interchange last week. I thought it was a commercial-sized drone, for replacing traffic-update helicopters or the like.
The one the news showed was a working prototype. KTLA didn't have a link on their site to the video. Some times it takes a day or two for them to update their web site.

Much better solution than cars that get stuck at stop lights.

These things won't have to be concerned with shoddy infrastructure such as bad roads, potholes, etc. SDC's may be done before they even really get going....heh heh heh.

I think there's lots of infrastructure involved. GPS system, charging stations, two motors attached to the side of a car strong enough the lift that car with passengers off the ground...

True...but I think that not dealing with roads has to be somewhat of an advantage. Roads ALWAYS need repaving, repainting, expanding, widening, improving, and you always need more of them. Then there's that issue of keeping bridges and overpasses structurally sound. Trains tracks are always needing to be retracked and retied. I think there will always be a need for SOME ground transpo for trucks and trains. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out in mass and private transportation for people.

Really? I was under the assumption that these cars would fly way lower than standard planes and be governed by different flight rules (all of which Foober wouldn't abide by because they don't like being regulated by anything or anybody) - than your usual jetliners which generally cruise at around 30,000 feet and above.

Monopoly. Why we still fly old tech planes? Because of monopoly. They don't want a new tech planes to replace old planes because they want to make money using old machines. We would be flying on new reactive aircraft years ago...no...

I can envision it now :
Drunks racing across the sky on Saturday nights.
Beer bottles s thrown out of Windows at 200 m.p.h. killing innocent people below.
Firey mid air collisions raining down out of the skies.
How will the police pull them over ?
