Long-distance runners from around Australia and internationally will converge on Canberra for the Australian Running Festival 2017 over the weekend of Saturday 8 April (6.00 am to 5.00 pm) and Sunday 9 April (5.00 am to 2.00 pm).

The running festival should be a good source of work for Uber drivers.

The festival comprises five and 10 kilometre events on Saturday and half, full and ultra marathons on Sunday.

The festival website (see http://runningfestival.com.au/) has the following information about drop-offs and pick-ups by Uber and taxis:

Taxis & UBER
Taxis and UBERs will be able to drop participants near the start line on Saturday and Sunday.

Drop off locations are:

Saturday

  • King Edward Terrace
  • Parkes Place West
Sunday

  • Langton Crescent - access from Commonwealth Ave travelling southbound.
  • Kings Ave - access travelling northbound only.
There will be several road closures: see http://runningfestival.com.au/road-closures.

Just a reminder that the Australian Running Festival is on this weekend (Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 April).

Showers are forecast for Sunday (see http://www.bom.gov.au/act/forecasts/canberra.shtml), increasing the prospect that participants and spectators will use Uber to get to and from the race. This happened last year, and I even had some surge fares after the marathon from conveying exhausted runners.

Participants need to collect their race bibs from Rebel at Westfield Woden today (Friday 7 April) so you may also get some work from this. I did last year.
