Good advice for sure but the problem was, in this instance, the dogs were loose from a property down the street a bit. The person that I was delivering to had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, could come from anywhere, and likely not to have made any difference to scan the area carefully before getting out. Plus, I didn't talk about what to do once you are attacked, that's another discussion. Lots of tips out there on what to do if you're being bit, but no matter what it's a bad situation. I once walked up to a 2-story house to serve a warrant. We had not seen any dogs or evidence of dogs, but there were two Pits on the porch roof, likely put out the windows onto the roof when they saw us coming. We didn't see or hear them until they jumped on us, one officer got bit badly in the face. I don't like Pits.

I carry nothing. Dogs don’t tend to be agressive with me; they love to cuddle though. But I do understand that sooner or later there might be one who doesn’t like me or whose owners are morons. I have a nasty fish knife in my car that would scare most away. It’s not for self defence though. I ise it for food because it’s a FAB combo of several types of blades. Not foldable, just huge and convenient.

It’s just a fish knife!!! I have 4, but only 1 in the car. It even has a locking thingamadoozie to protect the blade. I love boning knives for pretty much anything. Boning and paring are my most used.

I don’t think I have it in me to strike a living thing. If only protecting a loved one - I’m EXTREMELY protective. But for myself - I don’t think so. But I’ve surprised myself and others at times.
