I read this and cringed. I can just imagine trying to get a hold of someone using this.

I can see it being a pain in the ass, yes. But I can also see it doing some real good for older people. I for one would feel better about the crappy rates if they weren't in the service of some drunken idiot screaming do you have an aux cord in my ear while I'm trying to merge onto the freeway.

You know when you think about it, we do very little actual good driving for Uber. Maybe you could make a case that collectively we've reduced drunk driving and if that's true that's wonderful and is something we should all take pride in. But since it's really only Uber saying it the truth is we've probably somehow increased the number of drunks on the road.

So being more accessible for old people to me is a good thing. Don't worry, you're not going to be picking up the super old person you're afraid to look at because that means you'll become them. You're going to be picking up 70-80 year old people for short, no profit trips to and from the market and it'll be the only time they get out of the house, it might be the only time all week they talk to somebody and it'll be the only good thing you'll do in a lifetime of driving for Uber.

As long as it WORKS, I have 0 problem with this. Yes, they will all be unrated rides, but old people are some of my nicest pax. They're friendly, mild mannered, talkative, and sometimes even tip. You never have to worry about an old person trying to stab you in the neck or puke in your back seat.

This seems like an extension of UberAccess. Essentially doing extra work that trained medical drivers should be doing, and all for the low price of UberX rates...... And if you think pax take too long to get to the car now, waiting on Grandma could be a lot longer....

I think this is good in general to help older people and those in need. But what is fuber about?

Most of us just want to make money to do rides. That's it. Just from Point A to B as easy as possible.

So with all the extra work then a higher rate should be charged.

but morale of the story: Grandkids help out your grandparents as much as possible. Spend time with them and take them where they need to be. I use to before my grandparents passed away.:(

I just don't like dealing with third parties. Unless the person is waiting on the curb, I'll wait the 5 minutes and cancel if I'm told that the ride is for someone else. At this point UberAmbulance is just on the horizon.
yup don't like dealing with 3rd party. it's bad enough dealing directly with pax.

btw, fuber urgent ride is basically being rolled out in DC for people who need a ride to the hospital but is not an energency. Ok, who decides if it's an emergency or not? uh, no thanks don't want blood or vomit in my car.

Never had seen this until I got a request on Uber for it yesterday. The only hassle were all the text messages before/during/and after the ride from the service.

The pax couldn’t have been sweeter. She called me on the way and said “Hi driver...” and then proceeded to tell me all about her location again and again. She was elderly, so I didn’t mind.

The only thing I found ironic was as she was showing me the flyer and talking about how great the service was, she asked me about how I got the request.

I told her it just came straight thru on Uber, and before I could even finish the sentence she said “OH NO, I DON’T USE UBER.”

I notice on their website they say they use services “like Lyft” to provide the service. Good way to fool the elderly into thinking they’re not in an Uber.
