Who's in their right mind would call an X @4.1 it's more expensive than a SUV or @ 3.1 , it's more then Plus. Wouldn't we rather have higher base rates then play this synchronized swimming ( go under water until surge comes)

Totally agree Arto. If the rate on X was $2 a mile, surge would be very rare. X'ers would stay on line and provide a more reliable service. Make it easier on everyone. Pax and drivers would both be happier.

Add to that a rating system that was reviewed by an expert if it falls below a certain level and we could pickup the amatuer drunks, pin misplacers, the entitled, slow to come outsiders, solo cuppers, late to the airporters, schlured callers, the low rated and others that I don't mind driving. I just don't want to hand them the keys to my future.

As long as the flats rate is $3 a mile and .75 a minute. That would make me want a flat rate.

What do you think a driver will tell a passenger that just got soaked for a surge. We are going to side with them and say it isn't right so we can save our ranking.

What we are really thinking is, it's about time I got a descent wage.

I skimmed through the article, it seems like the drivers were saying they would prefer a GOOD flat rate over random surges. If they meant get rid of surge and keep the current rate, then they are morons. But I'm pretty sure they meant a good rate with no surge or 3x surge max. That I can agree with.

I understand that a $2 flat rate would be awesome and feel for the vets on here that had to deal with rate cuts. But the reality is that once uber started penny pinching the rates. The days of happily taking flat runs were over. Even more so with the cheapskate pool rides. Dropping rates made uber accessible to anyone with $10 in their checking account. And the pax mentality changed. A couple years ago a pax wouldn't ***** about a $2 flat rate. Now they ***** about a 1.5surge. Kind of bullshit is that???

When PAX talks Surge I let them know it's for their own benefit to make rides cheaper for them when there is no surge but more importantly it's to help out the drivers keeping them busier and making more $$$ when it's the non-surge rate periods. And if you believe that...

I just tell them UBER has chased drivers off and tried to monopolize the market with sub-standard rates so the only way for a driver to maintain profitability is to stay off-grid until a surge developes where we can actually make a reasonable return. I let them know that the driver that dropped them off with no surge probably broke even or at best made minimum wage. UBER has turned this into a game but the drivers have figured out ways to win and turn a profit at the expense of the rider. TURN off the app until a surge develops.

Not only yes but HELL YES!

yep alot of Pax are not paying surges ...so drivers are just sitting there. I'm the same raise the min fare and charge a flat rate, we all keep busy non stop with calls. Pax are not paying surges, multiple time Pax tells me I will wait the surge out or take another rideshare.....bad situation.

Sorry no surge, no Screwber control...No way to move drivers around the grid, no way to get them to flock to the Sold Out jam packed sport/concert venue. Do I wish to spend an hour in traffic for those leaving Staples Center for the same fare I get driving Malibu to Santa Monica PCH at 11 PM...I think not. The surge will stay but they still need to pay us a decent fare of $1.50 mile and .35 a minute for LA Area.
