I've been doing Lyft and Uber in Carroll County for 1.5 years, mostly because I live there.. Only part time and usually nights and weekends. Unless it is some kind of drinking holiday(Super Bowl, Cinco de Mayo, St Pats, etc), the number of rides is minimal. Not a lot of rides from McDaniel students unless they need to make a run for the border. LOL. I usually swing through CC on my way out and way back home just to see. Most of my rides in Carroll County have been out of CC(to BWI or to hotels in downtown Baltimore), though I have had quite a few rides from Eldersburg to Owings Mills. When I have driven during the day, it has been mostly folks heading to dr appts.

Just my .02 and experiences.

Welcome aboard!!! It is very competitive to get requests in the Baltimore area. I have worked there the last 2 Thanksgiving weeks but I won't be doing it this year. I will stay in Delaware and go up to Pittsburgh and spend the holiday with family. The hourly rate is too low and the miles and wear and tear on the car is just not worth it. BWI has done a great job welcoming Uber at the airport with a magnificent staging area where you can take a break, use a portopotty, get a bite to eat, and recharge your phone.

The strategy is to go places where there aren't a lot of drivers but there is still a decent chance for a request. Those are getting few and far between. If you like out in the burbs and far from Baltimore, you might actually make more money driving in the remote areas than coming into the city.

What you need to do is promote the service. Get some business cards with your name and number on them and tell people that Uber is available in your area. Put them up in supermarkets, post office etc.

I find that people will download the app and request the service if they learn that it is available. The one thing Uber does not do is advertise.

There was only 2 drivers in the county at that time. You can catch 1 as he is heading to uber in Baltimore. Just not enough people that use a ride service to keep any drivers in the area. People would prefer to Drive home buzzed. Like the cab service. The web site open all night. Call after 11. No answer.
