Anyone drive around midnight-last call? Worth the trouble?

Been doing mostly night shifts and going home around midnight to avoid all the crazies. As you know, without surges, all the rides will be around $5-$10.

I occasionally open up my driver app around 1-2am and see that it is surging like crazy for quite some time.

Last thing I want is a throwing up pax to make a couple more bucks during those hours.

yeah, fri and sat night, there are still surges around
and of course your chances of getting a belligerent or drunk person increases
its hit or miss. You wont get a drunk or have a problem every time
When i did the late nights (because of the high gurantees Uber used to offer) i had a total of 2 pukes, out of several weekends
I would never do it at regular rate.
I would do it for the surges, but i feel old now, im tired by midnight
I can not remember if I have tried this on UberX, but I do know that it works for Uber Taxi. I keep the application OFF when I am in the bar areas. I try to avoid them, as it is, but people do want to go there, so I find myself there frequently, if I work those hours. I do only street hails in those areas, so that I can decide who are the potential ralphers and not pick up those people. Funny, a cab driver can refuse to transport you if you are under the proverbial influence.

What I try to do is head for the residential areas. People there still want to get places. You do not have problems trying to wait for someone to come out on a residential street. I get taxi pings in residential areas on weekend nights all the time. While you do get people there who want to go to the gin mills and the clubs, the majority of people that you get there are going to another residential area. Because most of the drivers are working the bars, you have little or no competition in the residential areas.

I had 3 long surge rides to end the night, last night from 11pm-3am. One from Navy Yard to North of Georgetown, then from Georgetown to Kensington & then when I thought I was finished from H Street to Chevy Chase. Pretty good but dead miles abounded to & fro H Street/Chevy Chase.

I'm rarely out @ that hour...l

But since you on surge that'll cover some dead miles. Long rides + surge is definately the way to go in DC, good job

True. That's usually my aim but you never know where the person on surge is going or if they are gonna take the cheap surge route & go 6 blocks for $7 @ 1.5x. Lol
