Hi guys, been following this page for a year now and never necessitated to comment until now. Do you guys have any information on how yellow cab drivers can get some "peanuts" from the NY Unemployment benefit? I know gig drivers like Uber/Lyft have different benefits as compared to us the yellow cab drivers. Any help or information on how to file for unemployment benefits? Haven't gone to work in more than 3 weeks and my funds are fast depleting. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you.

Only thing I can tell you, is apply based on the first letter of your last name, and you are going to be put on review. Then call and good lucky. Im going to apply tomorrow but have no idea what to expect. You can also try a SBA Loan for relief assistance

As long as you received a 1099 (a few people have received a summary document Of some sort) it's the same thing under this new massive program - the independent contractor (any gig worker is an independent contractor). Uber, Lyft and yellow cab drivers are all the same when it comes to the eligibility of the new extension of unemployment benefits.

Good luck 😊

Good to know bro. My garage gave me a paper that had all my credit card transactions for 2019. Is that the "1099"?

No, YellowCabCruiser, that's probably the yearly Curb report. But if it shows all the money that came in month-by-month, that will probably be okay. It has your name and address on it? Just write your social security number on upper right somewhere and tell them this is all you have. Ask your garage owner fir the 1099. They don't always mail them. They're supposed to give you to file your taxes. It's an official document that has this at the top:

What if you already filed your 19 taxes, then what?

TheTruthHurts, you should be able to get a copy of the 1099 from the payer - in your case is it Uber? That would be more difficult; it’s not like walking into their offices and getting one, like I was able to. Did you copy the forms you filed (a 1040 would do it)? Pay stubs and documented earnings over period of time should work. Call Uber or the NY Labor Dept. It’ll be a mess, but you’ll eventually get it done. This is beyond important, and if you’re one of now eligibles under this new extended program, which I’m sure you are, it’s going to get done. True, the waves of calls and online visits is historic, but the Labor departments are expanding internet capacity (bandwidth, etc) and increasing personnel. It reeks of irony - you filed responsibly and you might have to go through more red tape than those that didn’t yet! You’ll get it done.

👍
