New driver here as well. Just started this morning. Don't plan on making this anything but an excuse to get out of the house and make a few bucks/help folks get to where they are going. That said, I have a few questions/concerns...

I have a class B CDL, do I need the passenger endorsement to avoid problems with LE or MTC? (or does a class B trump everything lower?)
If I have both commercial insurance and passenger endorsement am I legal according to MTC?
I had a short fare this morning that estimated my payment out as -$0.10; how does Uber not see this as a horrible business practice and is there anything we can do about it?
Is it legal, according to Uber policies, for us to ask for tips or place out a tip jar?
Can one obtain a Square (for CC transactions) simply as a means to collect tips? (does one need a business license for this?)
Is there any way to get location data that would show where and when Ubers are requested?

Thanks y'all!!

If the trip starts, your portion of the minimum fare ($5) is $2.48. Uber gets the first $1.70 and 25% of the rest. If the trip gets cancelled after 5 minutes and never started your part of the cancellation fee is $3.75.

I'm not sure if CDL trumps E. Having E and commercial insurance will help you avoid those particular tickets but you will still be ticketed because Uber is not approved to operate here, so you can't be approved to operate by the MTC.

You can't have a -$.10 payout so that is an error. Look on uber.com to see what the actual is.

Uber has never banned tip signs or jars, but it may affect your rating. I haven't tried it nor will I. I already make about 20% of my income in tips.

You don't need a business license to collect tips. Paypal has a free reader if you need one.

Sherpashare, an automatic mileage tracking app, has a heatmap that shows where drivers are driving the most, for what that's worth.

mayor slay said it was okay if we didn't pay our tickets in Chicago they didn't pay 15 million dollars in their tickets either so I wouldn't worry about it unless somebody cancels your insurance then it might be a problem but I know guys driving for Uber who can't get insurance anyway so what difference doesso what difference does it make

you might try just canceling trips instead of running them that way you'll save both gas money and also make more money off not actually going anywhere to pick customers up that's what I've been doing it works great
