Last night shortly before bar closing time, I was looking at the surge heat map and it was highest in the downtown area where there are a high concentration of bars.

I got a ping at a grocery store at 1.8X but it was outside the highest surge zone and decided to let it expire (as soon as it expired I regretted it because while I hate grocery store pickups, at least I wouldn't have had to deal with drunks).

Within a few seconds I got another ping in the bar zone. But this was only 1.3X. How is that possible? Didn't take it, then I get another ping in the bar zone, this time NO SURGE at all. What?! Declined that. Within a couple seconds I get another ping in the same area only this time it's 2.1X.

So within about 30 seconds I got three pings which I believe were in exactly the same cell at 1.3X, 0X and 2.1X.

The only ping was 10 minutes away for a 4.70..no thanks! so i watched the surge come and go in 5 minutes! great company!

Hard to say since you were getting pings with surge. My best guess for the guy with 0 surge is he ordered before the surge and no one wanted it. I would have let it go since there was surge and let some new person accept it could be the same with the 1.3 surge. He ordered early and drivers didn't want to accept it. If drivers know surge is reliable they might let low ones go until a good one pings.

Now don't get me wrong I do believe that they create fake surges just doesn't seem like it would be the case there. I don't think the map is in real time since I normally see it refresh every 2-3 minutes
