Airport pickups in Sydney..UberX

3227 Views 40 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  MyRedUber
So far I haven't bothered. One guy told me he waited two hours for a booking to come through. I assumed their would be build up demand for UberX services at Sydney airport.

Can anyone give some real life experiences? Not hearsay.

I did it the other way - Ibis to International - for $13.78. Had to go via Botany Rd so I guess that was the difference.

My shortest trip so far - 400m from a guy's home to Artarmon Station. $6.40 for 5 minutes work including time to get there.
My shortest trip was 200m drive. Pickup 2 Irish guys who are heading to a pub. They were not familiar /w the area, requested Uber, I told them the pub is in the corner, about 200m that direction, they both laugh. One of the guy apologies to me and gave me $5 tip for my trouble. Collected $6.40 + $5

I once waited in Domestic pickup for about 45 mins. I got a ping with a passenger rating of 4.4. Was a bit hesitant to pick them up but I figured I waited long enough so off I went. When I got to the pickup I saw a gentleman in business attire with no luggage. Fair enough I assume he just flown in for a day and will fly back later at night. Went to start the trip and to my surprise, the destination was the Stamford Plaza at the Sydney Airport, a good 500m walk. The bloke took a train to domestic airport first and then an uber to the Stamford plaza...

That's rough
And if you had followed your intuition and cancelled, you would have gone to the back of the queue.

Incidentally it's crap that when a rider cancels on you as I got mine to do becoz they had entered the airport as pickup when it was their destination, you don't actually go back to the front of the queue like Uber claims. I know becoz I saw other uber drivers getting jobs after my cancellation
Had to wait another 35 mins after waiting 20 mins for the next ping
Last time I picked up someone from the domestic was a disaster. The traffic was so bad (mad?) took me 30 mins to get to the public pick up zone from the main entrance! and to make it worse the rider only went to redfern and no surge by the way so all that for nothing.
No luck yesteday at the Int. Terminal, waited 45mins and pax only go to Zetland. Collected $16.50
Travelling from the waiting area at Domestic to the public pick up area was terrible today! Usually sit through 4 or 5 changes of lights

Next time drive to the other side of ross smith and left to joyce drive to get back to the airport faster.
Yep, they've changed that access roads to one lane each way and the lights are poorly phased. Yesterday arvo only 4 cars got through on each green cycle....
Will leave waiting area, head the other way and come in on the main road...

I hate that....The rider should give you a $10 tip out of respect!!!
Sunday was lucky. Picked up at Domestic terminal around 8 am, pax wanted to go to Root Hill RSL. Collected $76 after cut. Then head home to Castle Hill. Sunday is a rest day but can not say no to $$$

1 in 3 chance of getting a passenger at international without having to wait. So far has never happened to me at Domestic, Perhaps there are more Uber drivers are hanging around domestic.

yeah domestic has facilities like Maccas, KFC, IMO and toilets. I guess thats why more drivers are there. I use to do a lot of domestic runs when it was first available but its way to0 congested now with both traffic and uber drivers. You must have a lot of patience to do domestic pickups.
Domestic pick up on Weekend is good, only weekday evening is a no go zone
Usually more luggage for an international pickup than a domestic pickup.
But it's often much easier to get from the international UberX wait zone to the pickup than from the domestic UberX wait zone to the pickup.

On the other hand, while waiting at domestic, I've had many more pings from outside the airport, Mascot, Rosebery, Alexandria. I've stopped waiting at the airport. I now hang around to the south and west of the city. Much more work there.
I dont think I'm ever going to or least pick up someone from the airpot because its not worth the effort.
My first and last time I decided to pick up someone from the domestic was nightmare. It took me 35 mins to get to the pick up zone and
the guy ony went up to Redfern redfern st so not worth the effort and this was like sat night.

Might be better once we get a designated pick-up zone but we will have to pay for it.
When I am waiting at airport I ignore ping from outside of the airport. I am wondering if this will be a problem? Someone fill me in pls

Interesting question. Uber says you lose your place in the queue when you ignore a job offer. Do they mean any job offer or only an airport pickup?

Why would you ignore a ping from outside the airport? You can drive straight to it without the hassles of getting to the Public Pickup Area and finding the passenger.
