Yes and no, if no cars available passenger will go back to taxi, if surge price is more than taxi, passenger will go back to taxi. Passengers are very demanding now, so they will take out their frustration of lack of drivers on you meaning lower stars even though its not your fault. You will be busier at first but I suspect it will be more stressful.

Uber is offering taxi drivers 4 k a month guaranteed for 3 month starting June , if they drive uber x 50hours a week and accept 90 percent of rides.... I think it will be still crowded on July 15 as talking to some friends I know at canadian tire a lot of new drivers come in on daily basis with brand new luxury cars , ex 2015 Mercedes bmw , Audi , Lexus etc thinking they will be making a fortune working minimal hours , good luck to everyone my car doesn't qualify by then but I feel bad for people that purchased or even driving brand new cars for uber

Not exactly. There is still Aviva, as long as the drivers have $2,000,000 liability.
They have also signed up a bunch of taxi drivers, who already have insurance.
Spoke to a rider yesterday, that requested an UberX and a Co-Op cab picked him up

I don't understand how this might happen. I've never had a cab pick me up on requesting UberX.

Taxi drivers have fleet insurance through company they work for so they do not have their own insurance. You can not work for both at the same time. I'm thinking he called Uber A co op taxi just happened to be there and stupid Customer thinking hey a cab and uber same thing got in. a lot of people do not know the difference and totally understand the whole app thing, as opposed to street hail, nor do they care. A car arrived, I got in done deal.

You can request UberTaxi via the rider app (from Toronto).. The fare is metered..

Yes you can as taxis can now run their own uber type service, their app is similar to ubers and you can pay for ride by app as well, they also on an app trip do not have to run meter and have the option of charging Uber prices. If you can not bet them join them, but customer had to have used the taxi companies uber type app and did not use Ubers App. Every company in Edmonton right now has its own Uber type app and they are similar to Ubers. You can track your driver and have a fare estimate before trip, and can pay by app. All the new taxi bylaws allowed for this, its fair competition by Uber is still not allowed to do street hails and taxis can. At bar closing this becomes an issue. Again I suggest passenger really did not know what he ordered an app is an app. I have three different company apps for taxi /uber on my phone uber surging, taxi cheaper, so be it

No doubt Uber will attract taxi drivers, but they can not use car with taxi company logo still painted on it, they would have to repaint the car or remove taxi company decals, if it was a co op passenger used coop taxi app to order

Any fooling, buying a luxury vehicle to drive for Uber before insurance is even announced and cost worked out and knowing that the entire industry is going thru major changes where it could total implode and no one makes a living doing it is nuts. There are going to be price wars as taxi companies try to match Ubers prices. If intact caps drivers hours, and no one is sure about that issue yet, we know Aviva does, working full time for Uber may not be possible. Uber is offering taxi drivers 50 hours a week now or twenty dollars an hour, even they are not sure yet if hours are going to be capped.

First month : Earning will sky rocket; it will up to you how much hours u can give ;will be less wait for the pings: more surges on xl and select as they are more expensive cars to switch for drivers with old cars ; lot of drivers have credit issues : it will be like weekend whole months during the day: looking forward to it

Harry, where do you get your stupid idea from? Passenger are cheap, cheap, cheap. Just look a poo. As soon as I see surge price I am going to cancel. If I can not get a vehicle in 5 minutes or less as I am used to ...cancel. Passengers have no locality to Uber if service becomes slower and more expensive passengers will ***** like crazy and rate you lower even though its not your fault. If they can maintain around the same number of drivers as before nothing will change. New drivers will pay 25% to Uber , taxi drivers 20 % if they do 90% of trips and meet other requirements which we all know they won't be able to do.
