Upfront fares was $14.19 but the actual fares is $11? WTF? It happened multiple times like this! Uber is trying to cheat here?

MA has a pay floor based upon engaged time.

---

Massachusetts

As of January 1, 2025, drivers for Uber and Lyft are guaranteed a minimum “earnings floor” of $33.48 per engaged hour (this covers time from ride acceptance to drop-off, including travel to pickup and waiting time) .

Beginning in January 2025, this floor increases automatically each year by 3% or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower—so it’s set to rise again in early 2026 .

So you just have drove faster than the estimated time given in the Upfront Fare or picked up the customer right away for instance.

The only way to be profitable doing rideshare in MA is doing very short trips driving slowly

Yea I had a pax that just needed to run into Publix for a second and offered me $20 to wait so I took it.

Sure enough she was out fast and back home fast and I asked why, she said it takes so long to get an Uber through GoGo Grandparent it was just easier to tip me $20.

I can guess this is because it shows up on the driver app so perhaps many cancel, that and it was a short trip for only $3.65. Which Uber DIDN'T pay me for the way back like they normally do but it was still on the meter and legal plus I made $20 instead of $3.65.

Unfortunately though only the shortest trips actually passed my minimum sustainable pay per mile requirement, all the rest were absolute losers.

No wonder there is a lack of cars in the area. Local taxi seems to be doing good business though.

I'm curious, since you post endlessly your ChatGPT analysis on cost numbers for various markets:
- what market do you drive in? do you do Uber, Lyft, pax or delivery?
- what vehicle do you use?
- how many hours, days, and miles per week do you drive, and how much do you make in that week?
- what is your own net profit or loss, after applying your own analysis of your cost, using your models?

The fare doesn't matter much after the 33/hr deal. The wage is capped out at 33/hr.

Right now, active driving time matters more than fare.

All the bonuses + quest + challenges dont matter much. At the end of every 2 week, your tapoff + earning will equal to 33/hr.
What if you earned more than $33 per active hour by the end of those 2 weeks?

It is difficult to earn more than 35/hr. nowadays 35/hr is the 45-50/hr of the past.

I think uber changed the algo so that drivers won't get consecutive good trips. After 1 good trip, the algo starts sending bad ones continuously.
I agree,i knew i was getting played for years and cut back my driving from 7 days a week to none.Too much liability for me, but i miss it!

The guy doesn't drive. He got some disease or something. I don't know why he doesn't spend his time to travel (such as Thailand aka land of the happy) unless he is bound to a wheelchair. Spending all that time on this forum is a waste of time.

or he could go become a monk.. learn about Buddhism and kung fu. these monks rarely go to hospital and they dont get sick... unless they break their leg on some accident.

This happened at least once with Lyft. When I opened up a support chat, they didn't believe me, and asked for a screenshot as proof. I didn't have a screenshot, but I insisted, as the difference was about $12. After going through two reps, a supervisor took over. It turned out that a tip was included I'm the upfront amount, but took a little while to post.

This could be what's happening with Uber when the amounts are different. Check back within 24 hours to see if a tip shows up. Beware, though, on Uber Eats, a buyer can retract a tip and change the amount to one penny. This happened to me twice, once when a bag ripped, and another time when the customer put down her home address, instead of her work address, and wanted me to change the dropoff 10 miles into the trip.
