Have you ever driven by the shore on the July 4th weekend?
I haven't.. but I'm going to assume pax to be more drunk, more rowdy, more obnoxious, etc.
The reason I ask, first if you don't know the shore, don't think that any GPS is going to help you, not even Waze on the holiday weekend. You will encounter Gridlock in most of the beach towns similar to NYE in NYC. I live at the shore and have lived at the shore most of my life.

Oh and of course, there will be hundreds of new drivers flocking to the shore, because I am sure uber will send out a message about how busy it will be and how busy it was last year. Maybe you get a ride with surge, but I doubt you will do many trips at all.

Either way good luck!

You can come down and try it, but honestly not sure if it will be worth it at all.

Hello Douglas, thanks for responding. No, I've never driven down the shore.

I think I'll stay up north (JC,Hoboken, etc) and try the shore another time.
I worked the shore on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.. I am familiar with Belmar, Pt. Pleasant, Seaside, etc. from spending time there other then Uber. Yes MDW was packed... but just be smart enough not to block traffic when picking up/dropping off pax. If pax doesn't want to work with you, then cancel em.. there are plenty more out there. When I say work with you, I mean picking up and dropping off at a spot that's not going to get you ticketed or even noticed by PD.. all of my pax on MDW had no problem walking a block to meet me or getting dropped off a block or 2 from their destination. This really goes for anywhere you work the bar crowd not just the shore..
So if you are going to work the shore towns it is best to arrive early in the morning or late at night to avoid the traffic getting to the shore and at the shore. Your best hours will be around 9PM-3AM when all the bar action takes place. It should be fantastic on Saturday and Sunday nights and into the wee hours. Friday will be good. Monday will be okay but you have to deal with the fireworks crowd and once the fireworks are done everyone is flocking home. It might be more muted on Monday since Tuesday is a workday.

I'll do some "charity rides" early at zero surge....but I will refuse to go online if there is no surge late in the evening. You might have to bounce from town to town until you find a place surging that has fewer Ubers.

Thanks! sounds like a good idea.
yea..most people dont care about walking especially if you tell them white lies or being delayed by cops and not letting people in bars. the drunker the better.

I'm "guessing" that there probably wont be any surge, but there will still be enough volume of rides at the $1.70 rate to make it worthwhile.. I'll see. If Saturday sucks, I'll bail and just drink beer the rest of the weekend..
the really good surges are from 130 am to 230 am and like around 8pm in some towns not so close to belmar area. Asbury is known for surges around 330-5am also.

yea but there are will probably be a HUGE amount of drivers at the shore this weekend.. will probably negate surge but I hope I'm wrong..
This is not the weekend to do the shore. You won't even be able to see the map in the rider app because it will be totally black with cars everywhere
there will be a lot of cars, its know the right time and locations.
Hello,
There will be tons of drivers from nj, CT and NY. I think there would be plenty of rides as well. Additional drivers would limit the surges. Around 2am definitely surge, but how many rides you can do wothin limited time, one or 2. Cops will be buzy writing tickets. Just be careful and do not break the law, you will be fine.
